Park Hunting Newbie

New member
When I head out to the park to hunt should I have my sensitivity lower and where should I hunt I have the ace 150 should I hunt in coin mode or all metal thanks nesdore

Before you go to a park make sure you can pinpoint your target. Super target recovery is key before going to a public area. Since the 150 doesn't have a PP mode you need to be very good at target recovery. Attempying a park hunt without a Pinpointer is not advised with a 150. But to answer your question I would run in coin mode with 2 bars of power.

I have practiced for two weeks in my own yard in getting better and better at pin pointing thank you so much for the advice

Thanks Nesdore

Do you have a pinpointer? Even after 30 years of hunting I wouldn't park hunt without one. On your own property or field hunting then you may not need one? Please put your dug soil on a drop cloth while recovering your target too. I'm really glad you posted here for advice especially for park hunting. I get a little worried when I see the words "newbie" and "park" in the same post.

Im getting one in June but I don't have one as of now but when I dig a target I pinpoint as best I can dig my plug in a u shape take my drop cloth and put all my excess dirt on it locate my target fill in my loose dirt and then pack it with the backside of my lesche and put my plug back and either punch it back down or press it with my foot I try to be responsible as I can be take all my trash with me I went last week for about an hour and found this lol

Thank you for your advise and concern but im gonna get my Propointer for fathers day ive been told I truly enjoy my new hobby and this forum

Thanks again
Nesdore

Nesdore, are those square nails in your picture?....There may be more to that park than what you see.

Im not sure I just threw them out they were all rusty

looks like you are doing good , also keep digging those tabs as rings come in the same as they.

Thanks for the tip and encouragement much appreciated

Square nails are indicators of older structures so there may be older coins in the area... Whenever I find a square nail in the woods and fields it excites me since I may be near long gone buildings

My mind goes right to old coin hunting, sorry. Square nails come from old buildings. If it's a high acre park, there may have been 'eminent domain' deals with old land/home owners. There could have been some 150 year old houses in certain locations. Do some research on the park....old maps.

Ok thanks will have to do some looking I live in an old town so that makes sense thanks all now you got me excited and its raining today lol

When I go back to that area to hunt what is your advice on sensitivity settings and all metal, Jewelry, or coin mode I was hunting in all metal mode on 3 sensitivity thanks

There is plenty of time to run all metal after you've gotten the easier targets in the coin mode. Run coin mode with 2 bars power at first. Get the easier stuff first.

Nesdore, I am glad you are using a drop cloth! By doing so you can make it almost impossible to tell where you dug. Also if a park employee stops to see what you are doing, when they see the drop cloth they know you care and know what you are doing. Great job and good luck.

Thanks just trying to do my best. I actually use a pillow case for my drop cloth it works great :)
