park finds

I found the ring (Silver from what I can read ) at the Ski hill a couple days back. Today 1946 wheat cent (over eight inches deep in the sand and I actually had to crank up the sensitivity (2pm position) to bring up the signal strength) and a 1918 mercury dime which was only an 1" down. I find it amazing how these merc dimes are so shallow and missed in well beaten, kicked, stabbed and left for dead parks. I also found this mysterious copper piece (registered a perfect 180) I am thinking it was a penny placed on the nearby railroad track. Lastly this tiny little sterling silver religious medal. Registered a solid 173 on my meter ( approx 1" down) Someone please help me as I can't read what it states on the front. At the very bottom underneath the figure, it looks as if there is a date of 1880? Am I reading this correctly? lol far gone are the days of seeing close-up print.

Thanks for looking & your help - Jim

Thank God for technology. I managed to blow up the religious medal so I can read it. It states: Mary Concieved without sin pray for us who have recourse in thee. With a number of 1830 at the bottom. On the back it states MVM Sterling.

you really are getting lots of silver , and the madalion is a keeper wonder whats going to come out of that ball field

That is where I am headed this morning. Most likely they will be working on the field.... So I will bring my camera, take pictures, and talk to the on-site foreman to figure out when to come back :) Yes, silver is coming around one by one. I am hoping I can find a cache of silver in a section that has been "overlooked" by others. :) My thought is this and keep telling myself - between the two main parks (the two oldest) that I hunt ( 183 acres) there is NO possible way every square inch was covered. Especially that has been developed. There is lots of acreage that is still wooded and certainly is on my mind to hit (areas that have paths and gathering spots) Right now, the skeeters are in full force in the woods lol. I am waiting for it to get cooler.

I hear you on the skeeters , i stay in the open eareas, WOW 183 acre park thats alot of ground to coverarmed with the GTand some patience you will find lots of good targets and probly some really old ones seeing you live in conneticut, but with all that long age of civilization comes lots of trash but the trash covers lots of good targets If you can get to the ball field when they dig you may easaly walk out with over 10 silver coins maybe 20 thats an opertunity

When I arrived they had just started digging for the storm drain. hopefully, I can get over there this evening after they leave.

Definitely 1830, theres a couple for sale on e-bay. I just typed in '1830 Virgin Mary". They seem to be going for about 40$ a pop, definitely a good find, congrats!

EP, here's one I found about 2 weeks before you posted. Its copper with a crystal face and shows signs that it was gold plated but otherwise markings are identical to yours.
