Park Finds Today.

Went to the park today where I lost my VibraProbe two days ago. Brought the pin pointer I made two years ago from a stud finder. Used it today first time and I'll be darned, I like it better than the VibraProbe! I can hear it with headphones on and can feel a vibration too. And I have the advantage of adjusting the sensitivity. Found the heavy sterling chain (Italy 925) just before I was ready to quit and a Cross pen and a junk ring along with the usual clad. The chain discriminated out on my Vaquero at the same point where a zink penny is knocked out, good thing I dug it. Usually I don't dig if I think its a penny. Guess all signals should be dug. Wonder how many silver rings I walked away from.

I had the stud finder. took the coil out and put it in a PVC pipe, epoxied the ends. Works real good, can adjust the sensitivity. Was a lot of work getting the coil into the pipe without breaking the thin wires, the rest was easy. Don't know if this type of stud finder is available anymore. It detects nails in the wall.

The Gardner-Bender stud finder is availble online for $11.95 plus shipping, and maybe in some Lowes and Home Depot stores. Link is to plans for making pinpointers using Gardner-Bender or Little Wizard studfinders. There's a link on the Gardner-Bender plans page for ording one from an online site.

I looked at the Tomstreasures instructions posted above, a little lengthy, but good for some. Simply put, just lengthen the wires that go to the coil and then put the coil in the pipe. I used thick apoxy filler cement instead of pipe caps to seal the ends and added the on/off slide switch because the switch in the thumb wheel is the flimsy type which usually fails soon. Use 1/2" PVC pipe. Thin wall pipe, thinist wall available - to help get the coil and wires in. White color pipe is usually a thinner wall. Can be bought 60" long.

Oh yes...
Looks nice

DISCRIMINATION was first created to overcome the effects of iron and minerals in the soil - NOT to eliminate targets. To a detector, everything metallic has characteristics that allow it to be detected. Only we value certain things above others.

Dig all repeatable signals from foil up. Foil can often be determined by its signal strength/tone and often breaks up quickly as you lift your coil. Yes, you will get many tabs and large foil wads. But you will leave little behind as a result of your being "discriminating."
