Panasonic 60X Optical FZ70

Yes boys and girls, here what you always wanted...this is a PANASONIC 60X Optical, 16 Megapixel camera ...it will be available in August for a price of ONLY $400.00 MSRP...

In case you dont know, the 60X Optical is equal to 1200MM...not sure why anyone would want that much zoom but there must be a demand......because here it is!!!

If 1200 MM does not meet your requirement? the article furth states " You can attach an optional 1.7x tele conversion lens to the FZ70, however, increasing magnification to 2040mm. ""

Lots of built in filters etc

Here is a couple links to learn about this new camera

Reading about this new camera makes me dizzy...i want it...I like the filter option

are capable of taking pictures with little noise at high ISO settings. I wonder how long it will be before the lenses on the bridge cameras will be on par with the DSLR as per se. If you bought something like this Panasonic with the long lens, you better be getting use to using a tripod as there is no way for you to hold it steady when fully extended. I would be interested in looking at one.

I will probably get a contract put out on me for saying this, but some folks are buying these new bridge cameras and putting their DLSR cameras in the closet. They are enjoying the light weight and not having to carry a camera bag full of lenses. There will always be a debate on quality of the picture due to the fact that one lens is being asked to do so much, as much as several DSLR lenses. I personally think that if you put a bridge camera in the hands of a skilled photographer that you will see some outstanding pictures being produced. It is something to think about.

Detector Man, you are doing a great job posting information about cameras, gear, and other photography items. It sure improves this Forum...thank you! Kelley (Texas) :)

I know you know this but for the rest of the members i want to say that the SIZE of the sensor determines the quality of the picture along with the megapixel the camera produces........feel free to add anythign you wish or modify my thought about the sensor....

and what you said about bridge cameras is exactly why i got the camera i got...i didnt want to bother exchanging lenses etc...its like the scanner/printer combo thingy....however, I keep hearing that MANY people dont own a camera because they claim that their cell phone takes just as good a picture as any digital camera.....im not quite sold on that ...

It is a scaled down version but may be a great camera if the images are top of the line...

Well the LCD does not pivit out and you don't have that many frames per second you can shoot, the display is not very high end like the FZ200. But for the zoom range it looks like it may be a good camera

Youre correct the display does not swivel...My Canon S3 swiveled every which way....my Sony swivels tilting up and down only ....not sideways...
Frames per seconds?

From their brochure:
The DMC-FZ70 takes your photography to the next level with blazing fast speeds of up to 5 fames per second (fps) AF or 2fps with continuous AF Tracking, keeping your subject in focus even while it moves. An even faster 3 frame burst at 9 fps helps lock in those fast moving, once in a lifetime moments.

For me neither would be a deal breaker but i would really like the convinience of the tilting dsplay...im reading a lot of stuff that many cameras do not have yet ...in the way of Filters...polarizers and neutral density filters.....the polaziing filter is a nice option..

In going back and looking at it..i did notice that the F70 is a 16.1MP and the FZ200 is a 12.8MP camera...minimal difference in my opinion but there is a huge difference in price....FZ70 $399 and FZ200 $548 ... not sure why the difference in price but either way they are both fine machines....the $399 price will be a lot lower in a 2-3 months after they come out ...

thanks Low-Boy...glad to hear from you ...im aware you been ill...

The problem I am having deciding on my next camera is whether or not I want a DSLR, or a bridge camera. I like getting outdoors and hiking, so I need something that is good for outdoor use, but I don't want to worry about dirt and water getting into it. Will be a long while until I make a final decision on this debate in my mind.

As for the new Panasonic, the optical zoom capibilities of bridge cameras keep increasing. A few yrs ago the limit was 25 optical zoom. Now it is 60, wow.

a bridge camera might be the way to go...lighter weight, and you don't have the weight of extra lenses needed for a DSLR. Kelley (Texas)

I gave up the backpacking and hking...we used to go hiking several times a year and back packing annually with relatives. Inthe film camera days, i carried a 35MM SLR .. later i i switched to a point and shoot with a up to 110MM zoom. Had I kept backpackig and hiking with the family i would be getting a water resistant camera with a similar zoom which would be around 2.5 Optical zoom and that would be plenty or greater zoom depending on what would be available in a water resistant format...and LOTS of batteries or some kind of solar charger..i m sure they have that.

I hope you ll let us know what you purchase when you make the final decision....of course like computers and digital watches things change all the time and they will have new cameras with more bells and whistles.

Im sure youll do your own research ... these camera wont break the bank and they are waterproof too!! One of them zooms to 5 Optical which may or may not fit what youre looking for.

Thank you for the advice Kelley and Detector Man. I forgot to mention I have also been looking into a waterproof camera with better optical zoom than the Kodak I have, which has no optical zoom.

Thank you for the website Detector Man. I have been looking at the waterproof cameras that Nikon, Pentax, Panasonic, and Olympus have come out with recently. They have nice features, but the price is up there. Hopefully as time goes on the price on them will slowly begin to come down. Even so, like I said before, I am in no rush at the moment. By the time I finally do decide on what type of camera I want a new generation will probably be out, and hopefully the price will have dropped a little.

its posted further down and there was some optical zoom and they were waterproof, i dont know if you saw it so here is the link....the prices seem to be reasonable

http://waterproof-camera-review.toptenreviews.com/ just to give you some ideas when you make a decision.

Yes I saw it and looked at it. I have been looking into the Nikon before. The Sony is supposedly a touchscreen, so that one is a no go. The Pentax, Panasonic, and Olympus are also interesting.
