In that area back in April 1554 three Spanish ships loaded with silver sank while caught in a hurricane. Some claim that two of the ships were found in the late 1960's but as of the late 1990's talk was the third ship was not found? Not sure what has happened since that time? With all the tropical storms through the centuries no telling what or where something could wash up?! As stated above there are areas down there that are OFF-LIMITS. HH!

I use to vacation there in the late 80s and early 90s (Suntide III, ocean side). The national seashore does not begin until you get North of the developed properties. I never tried my detectors there but did see others on the beach with detectors. The property owners of the large condos and hotels have the beaches "cleaned" by large tractor pulled machines daily, your best bet may be the beaches bordering smaller single family properties that are left natural. You can see the difference from machine cleaned and natural beaches. The cleaning machines come in the morning so you may want to try the groomed beaches in the evening.
