With about a week of finding nothing remarkable or unusual, cept a paper dollar in the water. This am before sun-up I hit the one ring with a stone in it that sounded like gold but is junk, then I hit a solid dime/quarter signal and up comes what looks like a big silver ring! Its stamped "P4sr" which I had no idea what that was, and figured some sort of junk too. So I did a google search when I got home and low and behold its a special blend of Plat, Gold, Palladium, Silver!:surprised:...Im hunting waist/chest deep water in Lake Michigan on the back slope of the shifting sandbars hoping the sand is moving inland and the heavy stuff is left behind. I don't know what its worth for melt, but I figure its got a lot more Silver in it than gold or Plat or even Palladium since it hit like a silver..anybody know?

Hi Mud, I believe the formula is, .802 % silver, .062 % palladium, .0027 % gold, .0012 % platinum, hope this helps. Nice find tho, cheers and hh.

Thanks for the info Scrapman, i have not been about to find this information anywhere.

I assume the content would be Silver 80.2%, Palladium 6.2%, Gold .2% and Platinum .12%. Would the remaining 13.28% would be Copper? Either way, it is not worth much more than the silver content, there is less than 50 cents worth of gold in the ring and around 20 cents in platinum if my math is right. I took it to a friend today with an AuRacle electronic tester like this one ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GemOro-AuRA ... 416ecc219e) just to see what it reads on his machine and he tested it about 10 different times and every test showed a different result, Platinum on the first try, 18k 2nd try, nothing on the third try and everytime after that stayed in the gold but was different everytime. He said he had never saw the alloy before, he knows nothing about it and he would not be interested in buying it because he relies on his machine to tell him what it is.

Here try this, the decimals were in the wrong place.

Still and nice and unusual find, Mud. Glad you found it. I learned something new today. HH jim tn

Nice find, Mud! I wonder why they bother with such a small amount of gold - just a marketing thing?

Yeah we all learned something today..the only other rings I've found that hit like, are heavy and shiny like silver have been chrome. All those tungsten and stainless and other metals hit like gold..On another note, I did a class ring return this morning, the girls dad and grandfather met me and I gave her ring back, that's the fifth one in 3years...Said it cost 500 bucks, hopefully she will do a random act of kindness to a stranger in lieu of reward... Since I drove all the way back into town, I went back out for a little and got another ring...its one of those junk aluminum ones. The J-plug is a beauty and will be put to good use though!
All in all it was a good day for the mudster ...Mud

note:funny how theres no tag end of line on that lure which there usually is when tackle is rigged right and a fish breaks off...evidently the guy either dumped his tackle box over the side, or don't know how to tie a knot! These lures are used commonly up here for salmon...they are trolled behind a downrigger and wobble..

Very interesting thread and a super ring!! Great going on the ring return too, always a plus to get something back to the rightful owner. I've had only 2 myself over the years, but both times I really enjoyed seeing the happy faces when then got their rings back. Great job, good karma is on the way to you!!
