This will probably be one of my last posts here.
As promised I'll show you some of the final pictures of my cleaned 1853.

I'm a lover of original patina. Most people look at my old coins I've dug and say "Why don't you shine them up?"
I decided to stay with my nonaggresive way of restoration with the P1853.
I need to do a little cleaning in tight areas yet but mostly the stock and brass are done. Yup, I'm going to leave the brass aged toned.
The strap needs a little cleaning and preserving yet.
I got the original butt plate and it will only have the grease removed but all original patina will remain.
I did this slowly with rubbing compound under bright light carefully removing layers of fat until I reached the original walnut strained wood.
I've decided to dry the gun out and seal the stock with Tung oil this winter.
