Ox Cart River Crossing

Hey folks, I am looking for some advice on what to look for when I find a river crossing. From 1820 to 1870, trains of wagons were pulled by Ox and Horses from Minneapolis, MN to Winnipeg, Ontario. I am very new to metal detecting, bought my Ctx 3030 last year and work so darn much that my learning curve is still huge! My questions are....what artifacts could I expect to find at a crossing?? AND what settings should I use on the CTX?? Different on the banks as opposed to in the water? I have read many posts on here trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can! Many great tips and great people posting here! Thanks in advance for any advice!

And have thought of trying to detect some of the old trails... Most would be pretty hard to find and likely overgrown and the chances of anything dropped pretty slim at any given location. But for Minnesota that is about as old as it gets.
