Overstruck Large Cent?

Found this yesterday in area that has produced State Coppers. Looks like a Large Cent Reverse with what's left of the Obverse stamped "8x5xo" Any idea what this is/was for? Is it a coin or store card, token, etc? If coin, would appreciate info on approx. age or type of LC, if possible given the condition. Many Thanks, Dan
