Overlay Modification

I've been using overlays almost from day one with the Explorer. I think that I might be using them for a different reason than most.
I started out using coin and gold patterns almost exclusively. (saved screens) Then I started paying attention to Jim/Upstate NY about iron mask -8 and came to the conclusion he was absolutely right in saying that you "hear" more goodies in iron mask. The problem was that I had become spoiled by the "pattern" screens.
SO...
Now I put on an overlay and bring up my SAVED(small cursor) gold and coin patterns. I then draw around the perimeter of the pattern, on the overlay, with a fine, black perm. marker. I then put a small green dot at the crosshair center where 1$, 2 1/2$, 5$, and 10$ gold would fall. Finally, I go back into iron mask -8, ferrous, fast, gain 5, sens. 24 man. (ferrous is the only way I can stand all the sounds)
If it looks like I'm trying to run an iron mask/coin-gold discrimination pattern, I am. It's a confidence builder when you hear that deep, high pitch sound among the trash and then a glance at the drawn "PATTERN" gives an exact reference.
I don't know if I'm doing it right but I'm digging more goodies, by far, than I have with detectors I've used in the past.
Hope this explanation isn't too bollixed up to understand.
