Outlaw vs Cortes vs Tejon vs Vaquero help!

I made a recent post asking why I should consider trying a Tesoro when I've used Fishers for over 20 years. I received some very good advice on that post, enough that I've decided to go ahead and give one a try. I have the opportunity to pick up any of the models I listed above, reasonably priced from some fellow members. How on earth can I choose? I'm used to my CZ5 I like the tones, but I could live without em. I really don't care about an LCD, I like easy pinpointing. Can anyone help? I'm leaning towards the Outlaw, due to price, but for not much more, is the Tejon the way to go?:sadwalk:

I love my Vaq, but the Tejon is known for depth, too, and that dual disc is something that could come in very handy for checking targets.
I wish I had that on my Vaq.

I like the Vaquero , real light , takes one 9 volt battery ( same as my Pro-pointer ) has a nice tone . Not quite as deep as a Tejon , doesn't have a lot of the Cortes features
but it's all I need when I'm in a serious dig it all mode . I like the 5.75 DD coil on it , also for the junky spots and I've got the stock 9x8 when I want to cover a little more ground . Each of the detectors you mentioned are good all have different features , it's all what you prefer or feel you need .

I had the same decision to make last year. I narrowed my choices to Outlaw, Tejon, or Vaquero. I went with the Tejon and have been very happy with it.

three different creatures, what kind of hunting do you do ? outlaw best for sports fields, vaquero best for small things and deeper, and still does good on high conductors, don't know about the T

I can't comment on something I have never tried, so I will say I am very happy with my Tejon with the 5x10WS coil. I am getting good depth and the 5x10 is the most sensitive to the smaller gold items of the coils I have tried. Coils tried 9x8 stock, 5.75 concentric and WS, all good but the 5x10 seemed the best of all.

I would say you would be happy with any of your choices.

Tejon very nice detector, but very brutal discrimination, should be more sensitive. I think this free detectors are very similar, get any.

Well, it wasn't in my initial line-up but I bought a Vaquero today and should have early next week. Until then I'll be studying up on youtube:look:. It was new in box at a price I couldn't refuse:drool:! If I like the Vaquero enough, maybe I'll jump up to the Tejon!

You made a excellent choice my buddy on here Smokey63 uses one and he's chapped me several times relic hunting they are very versatile and are a do it all machine!! Congrats and look forward to your finds post with pictures.

I have had 2 Compadres, conq umax, Bandito 2, silver saber, and an outlaw. What I have learned is this. They are all great. I liked them all. Currently have the compadres and the OUtlaw. I have been wanting to try the Vaq and Lobo ST. I am a detector junky and cant seem to keep one for long, except the compadre, they stay. One is now a water detector and the other is a 7" version. Hope you enjoy your Vaq. I keep thinking of trading the Outlaw but just cant bring myself to do it yet. Get the 5.75" coil I think its the best coil Tesoro makes, my first Compadre taught me that.

I have the Tejon, so of course I'm gonna say Tejon. They claim it is a relic monster, BUT it sure does love coins. It depends on what you want your detector for. I wanted a deep coin detector, I got it! It is amazing the depths this thing will reach to find the smallest items. I love the dual disc, but don't always use it. When the situation calls for it, the dual disc is priceless. I have had mine for three months and love it.

You all should try the Fisher 1265 or 1266. Dual discrimination, and goes real deep. The 1266 is a cult classic-because it is outstanding! Who needs Tesoro's clone, the Tejon??

Metalmedic,

Good luck with your new Vaquero. I had the same choice to make two years ago between Tejon and Vaquero. I'm a coin and jewelry guy, I don't usually hunt relics. I still went with the Tejon (I don't think the Outlaw was out yet). I chose Tejon for the adjustable tone output, as my hearing is not as good as it use to be. I'm very happy with it, the trigger controlled dual discrimination makes it fast and easy to hunt without continually thumbing the disc knob at each target, its deep and consistent. Can't ask for anything more.
