Outlaw switch from AM to Disc

Howdy hunters,

So Ive now seen Spiritrelic, 53Silver, and GunnarNM videos showing All-metal hunting then switching to Disc to try to ID the target with the Outlaw. Did any of you three check to see how much depth you lost once you went into Disc mode? Did you lose any of your targets once you went into Disc because of this loss of depth? And for anyone else out there with experience using the Outlaw or similar (uMax?) models-- what have you found to be your depth sacrifice once in Disc mode? And specifically, when Disc is set up by Nickel, Tab, or Zinc.I saw 53Silver lose about 1- 1.5" when going from AM to Disc but Disc was set at Min. if i saw it right.

The reason for me asking this specific question is this--There are times when i want to "cherry pick" and set my Disc to just below Zinc. for coin and silver hunting, thinking Im sacrificing only nickels. When I hit a target, I'll see if it Disc's out when I turn it up above Zinc. If it does, I assume its a modern zinc penny and Im tempted to leave it. However, Ive heard I'll lose Indian Heads if i do this (although i found an I.H. while doing this, so?).

Any thoughts or experiences shared would be much appreciated!

You do not lose any depth switching between no motion and disc.If it was detected in all metal and it is not a small nail the Outlaw will hit it in disc. The disc mode can sometimes hit targets that are hard to hear in all metal. What you don't realize is all metal is a fixed sensitivity setting. The disc mode is more amped up.I have never lost enough depth to worry about while operating in a high disc setting.I do this all the time.I set my disc a hair past tabs and cheery pick silver and clad with plenty of depth to spare. :-D

That is good to hear Spirit. Ive farted around with air tests in both modes and did not see much difference between them, but Im not a fan of using air tests to approximate real world conditions and i have also read many statemtns suggesting loss of depth as Disc is turned up. I know I will have issues with MASKING as Disc is turned up, but I was also concerned with depth. Nice to know I should have one less isuue to deal with!

Thanks again for the response.

Its going to depend on how mineralized the ground is , I will do a test in my ground and video tape it , give me some time

Thanks Gunnar, I will look forward to your video. I will be getting out this weekend and will try to document what I see happening in each mode. Im still not too good at filming, searching, digging, etc all at the same time, but I'll give 'er a shot.
