Outlaw questions

Well-known member
Now that there are some Outlaws out there I am wondering a couple of things:
Does an Outlaw benefit from Power Balancing like many Tesoros do?
Has anyone tried super tuning it. If so, how does it behave?
Has anyone tried a cleansweep (3.6 x 18 inch) coil on one and how does it do? If so, how is depth with a cleansweep compared to the 10x12 and the 8 inch coils?

This is directly from one of Monte's posts:

Power Balancing is a term I coined a log time ago when using different detectors once I figured out how positive the offset was for some of them in the Discriminate mode. I do it with many models in the Discriminate mode, whether Threshold based or Silent Search. It's been almost 30 years since I learned to do this, and I have had a lot of very improved success, especially with Tesoro models since I hunt in some 'bad ground.'

a.. Locate a metal-free clean spot of ground to adjust the GB. You might pick some of the more mineralized ground in the area you're searching (and if you have an All Metal mode you can help locate such a spot.

b.. Select the Discriminate mode.

c.. Set the Discriminate level at the minimum setting (or where you might just reject iron nails on the ground).

d.. Use the highest Sensitivity level w/o noise or chatter.

e.. Start with the search coil held about 6' above the ground, and no higher than 8".

f.. Briskly, bob the search coil toward-and-away from the ground going from 6" down to about

Hey tvr - I am currently evaluating the Outlaw and very surprised at what this detector is capable of. With what I'm seeing so far, this maybe one of the best units Tesoro has introduced. It may have it's roots in the Bandido, but this all Outlaw! I posted a few videos with more to come.

The Outlaw does not seem to have a "hot" high end on the sensitivity like the Vaquero, so I don't think "super tuning" is going possible. However I am seeing the Outlaw sens seems to be more linear and is actually deeper then the Vaquero throughout the 0 - 10 scale. I'll explain more in my next video. This Outlaw continues to impress me.

CW and Mike,
You two have sure been at it; both in testing and on the forum!

Thanks for the added information!

Beautiful day here and I did not get out detecting. Was working on the cars and had a family commitment. Plan to get out tomorrow.

Another thought about possible tests with the Outlaw ... sensitivity to small gold. I know the Tejon is sensitive to small gold and the Cibola is not far behind. Compadre seems to draw small jewelry out of the tot lots and yet does not test quiet as sensitive as the Tejon or Cibola. How does the Outlaw do?

I will have to check out some of Mike's videos.
Hope you all have a great rest of the weekend.
Cheers,
tvr
