Outlaw Compadre 4 coil airtest

I posted this on another forum and just realized I didnt put it up here so here you go.
I put a coil connector on my Compadre. Some of the guys over at Findmall asked me to do an air test to see how it performed. Well I finally got it done and here are the results. I figured that it would be good to post it here too. It actually told me a lot. Generally speaking the 8" coil outperformed the 5.75 coil and the large DD coils are not really great on the Compadre. Also the Compadre doesnt seem to like quarters very much with the large DD coils.

Thanks for taking the time to do the tests and post them. Appreciated very much. I didn't realize how impressive the Outlaw really is...It compares quite well when stacked up against the Vaquero.

Thanks for sharing.

1.. I really appreciate seeing some comparisons of a side-by-side check on performance, even if it includes competitive brands.

2.. Adding the coil connector to the Compadre was one thing Teodoro could have done long ago, allowing anyone to pick the coil they want to use instead of making it with three different coils to pick from ....

HOWEVER .....

3.. This could bring about a problem with the low-dollar model that you just might have pointed out, and that is poor performance on the US 25

Thank you for posting. Very interesting. I will do this same thing with my Golden uMax and the stock 9X8 and 5.75 coils. Can't wait to see what I come up with

Very informative Monty. The tests were performed with detector on the ground with the coil in the air, ruler on the ground. I did GB all coils individually on the Outlaw. I am planning on turning the Compadre into a water machine. When I do I am thinking of putting sens and GB knobs on it. The bad 25c results were only with the big DD coils i will have to try changing the GB and retesting.

Your results or spot on to my experiance with the outlaw, thanks for doing the testing , Gunnar

I've been thinking about putting a Cleansweep on my Compadre. Wonder how it would do if it was setup for the coil?

when I get the chance I will try to GB my compadre with the CS coils on and see how it does. From my airtests it does really poorly with the CS coil currently.

Thanks for sharing.

One comment :

I swing an original Compadre with 8" coil since 2009 (Europe). I am very surprised looking at the poor results achieved with that coil in your tests. My Compadre airtests an US quarter at 7 1/2+ inches with ease.

Since a while, they sell here Compadres with the interchangeable coil option. I had in mind to buy one, but now I am hesitating.

Thanks again, this airtest is very informative.

Nick.

The difference must be the GB setting. I bet if I adjusted the GB the compadre would run well with all the coils. I am probablu going to convert mine back to a 5.75 coil only and put it in a water proof housing.

The GB setting makes sense indeed.

It is the only explanation I see.

But I am still very tempted by a Compadre with the connector and the 8 and 5.75" coils.

All-purpose-hunt almost everywhere combo.
