Outlaw and vaquero for jewlery?

I am looking at getting a Outlaw. I wanted a Vaquero for years but the outlaw came out and now it looks like a better setup for me. I am wondering if the Vaquero is more sensitive to gold being a higher frq.? I need an all around detector and there are alot of Vaqs for sale used that are really tempting. I could save $250 on a Vaq and get a CSC and a 5.75 coil for about the same as a new Outlaw. I am having trouble deciding. Is the Outlaw worth it? I plan on keeping this detector for a long time. I have a gold detector and a beach detector and the Conq umax. I am planning on selling the Conq. when i get the new detector. I guess what I am really after is, those of you that have or have had both which would you choose if you had to have only one of them? Help

The other thing I could do is get a CSC for the Conq. and wait untill a used Outlaw comes on the market. But that may not happen being that they are really popular. :detecting: I plan on getting a CSC at the same time as the Outlaw. If the money isnt a factor what would you choose?

I haven't used a Vaquero, but in the brief time I've used the Outlaw, it hit hard on white gold, but it was a fairly large ring (7.2 gm) and it also hit well on tiny silver rings. The white gold was about 2" down, one of the silver was about 2" down and one was about 6-7 inches. It also hit well on a couple of junk jewellery items I found, but they were not deep.

I feel your pain. I have a Vaquero. It's a good machine for both coins and jewelry. I've toyed with the idea of selling it though and getting an Outlaw. Then again maybe keeping it and getting the other two coils for it. Oh decisions decisions. The best person to ask in my opinion is mike5853. I know he has both. Shoot him a PM, I'm sure he's love to answer any questions you may have. Good luck!

Mike will chime in im sure and he would be the expert on this topic. Just got my Outlaw today and wanted a V..but glad I got the Outlaw..time to get it out but rain has stopped me today.

I didn't like the Vaquero for a few reasons.

1.. I didn't like to have to change my Disc. setting to turn the knob into the clicked All Metal mode and then re-adjust when I went back to Discrimination.

2.. I didn't like the lower audio tone of the Vaqueros I had.

3.. They worked, but I also felt the iron rejection wasn't as good as what I had with the Bandido II

Hey machineman - Here's what I found on these two for both gold and silver rings. I would say the freq. appears to be a factor. The Vaquero is 14.5kHz and the Outlaw 10.6kHz

Small gold ring - "V" - 8 inches, "O" - 6 1/2 inches.
Large gold ring - "V" - 11 inches, "O" -10 1/2 inches.

Small silver ring - "V" - 8 inches, "O" - 8.5 inches.
Large silver ring - "V" - 9 inches, "O" -10 1/2 inches.

Somewhat of a coin toss - no pun intended - but despite the numbers, the Outlaw has a better disc, not as compressed as the "V", is comparable to the "V"s depth, and as I've said a few times, the best value Tesoro offers. I think of the Outlaw as a compilation of all the best features of several of Tesoros detectors. I posted a video yesterday on the Outlaws depth. Since the outlaw arrived, I don't think I used my "V" more then 3 or 4 times, and I love the "V". It's a tough call and you can't go wrong with either, you'll just get more versatility and I think a bit more performance from the Outlaw. Let us know which way you go.

I'm with you Mike. I really like the wide range in discrimination that the Outlaw offers. You can fine tune it better for a particular hunting situation.

The ED-120 discrimination is great on the Outlaw.

I really like the Vaquero a lot, but if had choose between the Outlaw and Vaquero, I'd pick the Outlaw.:)

I would also choose the Tesoro Outlaw over the White's M6 detector. I've already bought, tested and sold a M6. I didn't like the weight and balance.

Nothing wrong with the Vaquero or the Outlaw but I wouldn'r be in a rush to get rid of your Conq

I think the Outlaw won, I will pay the extra and get the Outlaw and a CSC. I have found that I like to work the open fields more than the picknick areas. One day I will get a Gumax and it will use the same coils so I think its a good choice. I was leaning twards the Outlaw the whole time but the price difference was pulling me tward the V. Cant wait to get my new toy. Thanks for the advice.

my two or three cents worth ;-)

With a gold detector and a beach detector, that I presume you are happy with, I think any possible depth advantage for targets in the mid-conductivity range that the Vaquero may have would not be of much advantage. I would expect that where you want best sensitivity to gold or best depth at the beach you would go to your gold detectors and beach detectors respectively.

I think there is a Gumax in my future also. I want a more general detector thats why I am looking at the V or Outlaw. The nice thing about the Outlaw is that the coils will work on the Gumax.

Between the two I would get the Outlaw, I had the V for a while and found the tones it gave confusing. For a general detector I still say get the Golden, you will find everything with that.

Quick question folks about CSC acronym? Is that a concentric coil?
I did try looking it up but found no clarification.
Thanks in advance.

The CSC is the clean sweep coil, a widescan. It is 3x18.

I haven't owned a Outlaw but I have owed a V and Golden , the V is a great all around machine , I've used it for relic and jewelry hunting and it worked great , I wished I would have never got rid of it ( I think there will be a new V in my future ) . But for coin and jewelry I have never owned anything as good as the Golden and I have owned and hunted along side a lot of different detectors . But that being said I don't think you can go wrong with any Tesoro . IMHO . Good luck and good hunting :)

At the risk of kicking up a hornet's nest, if you want an all around detector that is good on coins and small gold jewelry, you're good to be very hard pressed to beat a Compadre.

If manual ground balance is a must for your area, then of course it won't work for you.

But for everyone else, man, this thing is hard to beat.

I have owned or used a lot of Tesoro detectors and consistently my best finds were all made with the Compadre.

Maybe it was just dumb luck, but I can't argue with the results.

I only wish to Tesoro would offer a version of the Compadre with a larger coil for use in more open areas.
