Out with the Vaquero

Got out today for a little lunch time hunt with the V today. I was hunting a median strip near my work and had my disc just set below 5c. I was cruising along working my disc to see if I could guess what I was digging. I received a signal that just cut out a little past pulltab. Now normaly I would not have dug this signal with my fancy bells and whistle machine and that would have been a mistake. See sometimes when your in a low trash hard ground area you want to dig all the good repeaters. That's what the V allows me to do. It becomes more of a game to see if I can I.D. a target before I dig it and as you can see below I guessed this little jewel was a pulltab and I can bet many others also did!

Nice Find, is the Soldier made of Lead ????
I have a V as well, mostly i use all metal mode, disc when i find a target,
Would dig targets in the Pull tab range, took much to much notice of the ID on Id Detectors in the past,
Who knows what i have missed?????
Good Luck

That is the thing for me.

I got tired of just looking for coins.

It takes close attention to find interesting and valuable objects.

That's why I chunked the TID's. I think they are more of a distraction

from what I am trying do accomplish.

HH,

I do believe that this soldier has been around for quite sometime. And I agree that is why TID can cause you to let some nice finds in the ground. If you use TID you really need to open the discrimination, ignore the readout, and dig a lot more "questionable" responses. Of course someone may then ask the question why use a detector with TID? That can get into a whole other topic of discussion. Very nice recovery!

I have a couple of Tesoros and I love those machines when I'm in ok ground, but unfortunately the best machine I have in bad ground is a Whites with TID. So, as much as I agree with you fellas about Target ID being a distraction and many times useless, it does come in handy when there is so much trash that you'd never get outta your own way trying to dig it all. The irony is that lately I'm using the Whites to find my CW hotspots and then using my Tesoro Eldorado to clean house. But, on a positive note I have a Tejon into Tesoro for repairs and reconditioning that just might replace everything if it works as well as its been billed.

and he looks like he's been around for awhile. The median he came from has been cleaned out by previous detectorist as there are only a few good signals and most of them are close to the edge of the sidewalk or mixed with some trash. I agree that TID has it's place and I've been using a TID machine for over 10 years and will continue to use them. Heck I even found my first large cent a couple of weeks ago with my high end unit (but I'm sure I would have gotten it with the V if I had been using it)! Last year was my first time using a Tesoro. I just have fun using my Vaquero or Golden and isn't that what it's all about!

Guys
Before i bought the Vaq i was using a 250 ace/ minelab XTerra 50, both machines with ID.The Advantage i had with the ID machines over the VAQ is one big Zero. There is large amounts of iron ore in Australia, yes some iron can not be disked out, it does crack and pop gives you an idea what it is,
Fired up the XTerra last night in my bedroom, could not run it higher than 15 sens, turned up the VAQ no problem full on sens, i could not go back to what i had before the VAQ,
Anyone know how the Whites with ID compares to the VAQ ??
