Out with the QuickSilver

The ground finally thawed enough to get out and do some detecting tonight. So I took a walk down to the local park and started swinging. One of the nice features of this park is that it has a nice 8X8 sandbox to search in. That is where I found the 5 cars and the 2 nails(go figure, in the sand), I was more than happy to remove those nails. The sandbox gave me a nice chance to test the sensitivity of the quicksilver, I found that in the moist sand the lowest setting worked the best. This setting kept me from digging to the bottom of the sand. It also had the added benefit of not picking up the kiddie equipment which is metal(looks like a backhoe shovel). The cars were found from 2 to 4 inches, 3 of them were found under the seat of the little shovel, the other 2 near the middle of the box. After searching there I moved over to the bottom of the slide, no luck there. I found the pulltabs and random piece of canslaw while moving from the slide to the swingset. At the swings I found the dime and 2 pennies. Still using the lowest setting I noticed that if I got a blip and turned up the sensitivity I got a coin at about 3 inches. I got both pennies that way. The dime was found on the lowest setting laying flat about an inch down. I noticed that the dime had a little sweeter tone than the pennies. I was getting a lot of iron hits in the grass but the ground is still just frozen enough to make hunting impossible for now. Probably the neatest thing that happened was 3 or 4 neighborhood kids saw me as I was getting the last 2 coins and one of them exclaimed: "Cool! A metal detector.", I just smiled and moved away. I think that they were wanting to follow me around so I called it quits for tonight.

I can't wait till it warms up a little more.

Great finds, I can't wait to find my first car.
