Once upon a time, I lived in psuedo snow country.
That was Kansas back in the 60's. Lived in Wichita for a
while, and then Merriam, which was a sub of K.C. KS.
But I've been in Houston since 69, and forgot what snow
was.. It snows fairly rarely around here. The last snow
that actually built up and gave enough to make a snow
man was in 1973. It has snowed a few times since, the
last was christmas last year, but never amounted to anything
like 1973. It's weird seeing you dig in a land that looks
like a fish ice bed, and here I'm running my a/c half the
time, and digging in shirtsleeves. The grass/trees, etc
are already starting to turn green here. Even in the winter,
it never goes totally brown like it does up north.
What a difference 2000 miles or so can make..
Here, it's starting to get dry. I think they turned the
burn ban on again. I was out 'tecting a bit yesterday, and
a bit harder to dig than a month ago, when it was like moist
gumbo clay. We've already been in the mid 80's a few times
this spring. Winter is bout toast here... Probably a perfect
time to try some beaches before the summer traffic gets thick.
Was talking to a old guy on the radio yesterday about Spanish
Galleans in the area. He said there were about 6 of
them that lie off the TX coast. There was also a bit of civil
war activity off the coast of Galveston, Matagorda, etc..
