Out of town hunt.

Finally I found some stuff worth posting for a change...............:wiggle: Got to go to one of the two clubs that I belong to and their out of town hunt. My buddy Lee and I packed up the car and left last Thursday morning. It was about a six hour drive and finally arrived in town, checked into our hotel and quickly headed out to where the rest of the guys and gals were camped at. It's an old lake resort that probably dates back to the early 1900's. Right off the bat I pulled a 1937 Merc and my next target was a beautiful well worn 1923 Peace dollar.:surprised: My cross hairs were almost pegged in the upper right corner and I asked Lee to check it out. He said if your not going to dig it then I will.......... She was a good seven inches deep, but that big hunk of silver was screaming on my good old XS.:clapping: I didn't clean any of my finds so the dates are not readable on some. My take in wheats were a 1919, a 25, 28, 30, 39, 40, 4-42's, 4-45's, 47, 52, 2-53's, 2-56's, 2-57's, a 58 and a 19?. Only one 1902 Indian, 2-1935 quarters, 1-1906 Barber dime, 1-1960 Canadian dime, 2-1949 Rosie dimes, and my Mercs were 1919, 1920, 1926, 1937, 1941, 1943, and 2-1945's. I also got $8.23 in clad a two Washington state tax tokens. Fifteen silver and twenty wheaties is my best as far as extended outings go. I would have liked to have stayed there for at least another day, but we had to come back home Sunday. The soil around the lake was almost black, but the digging was real easy. Friday morning Lee and I were all hot to trot to hunt the lake area again, but the club decided to hunt the old fairgrounds. Lee and I didn't want to go, but it's a club hunt and the rule is we all hunt at the same area. I don't agree with it for a couple of reasons. First off, like the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke then don't fix it." Second, some of the guys got to spend an extra day at the lake where we all knew there was silver and the fairgrounds was a bust and a waste of time as far as I was concerned and if given the choice I would have just stayed at the lake. Lee got about the same amount of silver as I did and he did get a nice silver cross and a 1897 Canadian fish scale. Another fellow found a nice 18kt gold gents wedding band and good old Jack found a silver coin stick pin, a 1922 Peace dollar and best of all the smallest 1853 dated gold coin that I have ever seen.surprised: It was probably about half the size of a dime. I'll get a picture posted later of this gold coin and maybe somebody knows more about it. I'm not sure what the total take on silver was for all the members that were there, but I will post that later as well. Anyway, all in all we had a great time getting together and the BBQ Sat night was great!! Enjoy the pics and HH.

Holy @#!!&% man! What fantastic finds you dug up! I can only dream of making such finds. Wait a minute! I own a Explorer now. Maybe i can make such finds now!.:clapping:

Thanks Dang. I'm sure you will find some coins like I did eventually. Just have to be in the right spot at the right time and hope those before you didn't find them all and yes, Explorers do sniff out the good stuff.:detecting: Wouldn't it be great to find a spot like our club hunted and just have it all to yourself:clapping: HH.

Eddie

Looks like the club found a good place for the out of town hunt.. Congrats on that big silver. All the years I've been detecting and I have never found a silver dollar.

Thanks crazyman. I was just lucky enough to wave my coil over the spot before anyone else did.:clapping: This is my third dollar coin since I started detecting. Don't give up on the big silver because they are out there. Last time my club hunted there the area we hunted was flooded. I didn't go as I haven't been a member of this club that long. Being the ground had plenty of moisture the silver was popping out all over. HH.

Was this a Bremerton or Belfair club hunt? I bet Jack was excited when he pulled that coin.

This was the Belfair club hunt. I don't recall the Bremerton club having an out of town hunt since I have been a member and if they did then I missed it for one reason or another. Yeah, Jack was pretty excited about that gold coin/token, but I think Lee and I were probably more excited since neither of us has ever found anything like that before. Jack always seems to find the neatest things. Just wished some of it would rub off on me, but then Jack probably has 40 plus more years detecting than I do. HH.

You and Lee have gone over the Silver Limit! :nono: This will cost you 1 Peace Dollar for posting such results. :poke:  WTG BUDDY!!!!! I'm jumping :jump: up and down for ya! WOW!!!! What a hunt Eddie! You know why I think that Club wanted to move over to the Fairgrounds don't you? Because they wanted that site for themselves (or possibly a few of the members did) when they seen 2 Silver Dollars, a Gold Coin, and all them Keepers come popping out of the ground like that. That sucks that you couldn't of hunted there more since the possibilities could have been endless at that site. Man!!! What a bummer! Oh Well!! At least you got what you did while you were there and just make sure to attend more of them Club Meetings to find out when they plan on going back to that spot. Your 1 up on me now Eddie! I haven't found a Peace Dollar yet so Congrats on that Fantastic Find! :clapping: Now that's the type of hunting we all dream about doing. Glad your Hunt was a Huge Success Eddie and too bad you didn't find a Seated Dime, then you would have had a Slam. Maybe next time. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you buddy!

Thanks James. It was a good site to hunt for sure and yes, I would have liked to have stayed and hunted that place some more, but there is always the chance to go back there another day. Even if that area was pounded by the Minelabs I still think there is more to be found there. No seated yet buddy, but I'll keep trying. I don't think this spot was old enough for the seated and as far as I know the oldest coins were four barber dimes that were dug up. I also have no doubt that some wanted this spot to hunt more for themselves, but like you said, I got what I did and I'm happy with that.:clapping: I may be one up on you, but I'll never compete with you and all the silver that you find. Lee and I found two good spots three years ago that we shared with the club for hunts. We could have had these sites all to ourselves. What the heck were we thinking!!! Got our club meeting tonight and our club moonlight hunt this Sat night at our county fairgrounds. I'm taking your newsletter to the meeting tonight to share with the club. I'm also going to sign you up as a member (dues on me) to our club so you will be getting our newsletter in the mail. Send me your address by email or a PM. Thanks again for the kind words and as always HH buddy.

No wonder you didn't want to leave that site. Like James suggested...I would imagine they wanted to get you to a different site...so there would be something left for them:crylol: Nice job buddy.

Thanks Bryce. Sure wish there were more places like that where you get a nice variety of coins that we found. Haven't got the total coin count from all the other fellows, but when I do I will post it. Yep, I really didn't want to leave that site, but there is always another time. Even with all the Minelabs that were pouding that area I'm sure there is still some more to be found. Glad to see you back and hope all is going well on the home front. As always HH buddy.:detecting:

I think James is on to something in his post, I can't imagine anyone wanting to leave a site that pulled two silver dollars in a single day. Somebody is a going a poaching and they apparently forgot to invite you. :ranting: That smells, but hey, if it weren't for the club, you probably wouldn't have gotten to hunt there anyway. If the lake is still there, it is probably an excellent spot for an Excalibur. If there is still that much silver on land, chances are.... no ones done the water yet:thumbup:

Thanks digitrich. It was definately a cool place for the hunt and makes you wonder why this place had so much silver. Besides this spot being flooded the last time the club was there, I'm still amazed at how much silver we pulled out of there as I'm sure it's been hunted plenty in the past, but then again nobody was probably using the Minelabs either. I'm sure there is plenty of nice stuff in the water yet to be explored. The lake drops off real quick so diving gear might be the ticket to find the good stuff. HH.
