Out of the box, what?

I should have a new CTX this week. Out of the box of course is the assembly and charging battery pack, but then what do you suggest? Remember, I have never had my hands on a CTX, so my question is asking what to expect and what to do to go hunting. I'm a coin shooter on land so what buttons will I push to have my first experience at my local park? My past experience is with the Safari (which I recently sold to help buy the CTX), and the SE Pro which is my # 1 machine now.

Since your an experienced Minelab user I would suggest you use Gone Huntings settings. He uses a very open screen and ferrous coin. Both of which REALLY open up the CTX. It worked very well hunting at Civil War battle field in Virginia this weekend at the Minelab conference.

Thanks Bart, I value your input. For a while though I believe I will learn the machine by doing nothing about adding or changing settings while I learn the machine. It took a while to learn the SE Pro (I'm still learning), and I hope the curve won't be as difficult as the SE. I am hoping my Minelab experience will help but I've read others on this and other forums say to forget what you have learned about other Minelab machines, the CTX does not compare. Do you agree with that statement?

First four things to do..... start charging the battery....... download and read the manual........ download XChange2 software and manual........ read the owner's manual again. Links to the manual and XChange2 can be found on the Classroom site.

You're familiar with the Safari and SE Pro. So basic FBS terminology is familiar to you. When you've read the manual and are ready to step out the door, I'd recommend that you start out in some of the factory programs. Keep the Sensitivity on Auto (or Auto + offset) until you get familiar with the sounds of the detector. Take a look at the coin chart in the Classroom so you know what typcial coin TID's will be. Scan some of your own treasures to get a better feel for the sounds and TID numbers. If you don't like the sounds, remember that the CTX allows you to change those tones, as well as edit the size of your bins in the audio profiles. If you would like more specific "advice", let us know what types of targets you hunt for, and some of the settings you use on your SE Pro. There are a lot of folks on this forum who have used Explorers and can "relate" to the cross-over.

And finally, since you're coming from the SE Pro, get longer handles put on your digging tools. JMHO HH Randy

Install Xchange2 software, patch software. Hook up the CTX, update the firmware.

Patch software?

Once you install the software and run it, at the top of the menu you'll see a update symbol. The first time you run it, it will patch your Xchange2 program to the latest version.

I thought the update symbol was for the CTX only. The little ! in a triangle.

My CTX is suppose to be here tomorrow so in anticipation, I downloaded Xchange2 off the Minelab website already; I assume it is the latest version but I will look for the update symbol.

Mine patched the software, then the CTX once I plugged it in.
