Out looking for old coins.

Last night I decided to take the AT Pro to my best silver site. Well, what used to be my best. Once I discovered how much was there, I clobbered it good. I still find a silver coin there every once in a while but now only on the edges of the property, in areas that are difficult to detect. First hour, as expected, I found a lot of nickels as the ATP is a nickel magnet. The Buffalo Nickel with the slice out of it is actually a decent date. 1916D. Too bad it is so beat up. A few of the Jefferson nickels are from the 40s/50s. I got a signal that was supposed to be a silver dime that turned out to be the baby silver ring. I took a long walk across the newer parts of the field to get some clad. Stumbled on a nice coin spill of three one dollar coins and around 10 quarters. That satisfied me and I went back to looking for silver. All of a sudden I had around a dozen helpers. Nice kids. The last target they helped out with was the Merc which was cool because none had ever seen one. They of course all wanted it. This discussion and passing it around interrupted my hunt for quite a while. We ultimately decided that I should keep it. (Like there was ever a doubt!) There are 6 wheats there too. 30s/40s. Today would have been a great day to go out but I didn't feel like it. Even with all the rain we got last month it's already starting to get very dry. Weather. I used to have a friend who loved to discuss the weather...........

I have never gone into June without having found a bit of gold. That stinks and I plan on whining about it until I find some.

Dollar coins are a nice find and so is that merc . Congrats !
Find those all the time up in the north country.

Nice finds Chris. I wonder how many of those kids went home and ask mom and dad for a detector?

very nice hunt and the gold can't be far behind good luck

Nice hunt Chris too funny about the Merc!! HH:detecting:

Which one do you find all the time? I don't find Mercs or dollar coins all that often. The dollar coins are popping up more and more recently, though.

Chris

Chris the dollar coin we find often better known as the loonie.:canadaflag:
I've only found 1-1944 merc up here other than the 12 I found at a seeded hunt in March
in North Dakota.

Now I get you. I was thinking why would he be finding US dollar coins up in Canada when it's sort of rare to find one here? At one point in my detecting career I had found about 5 US dollar coins and about 10 or 12 Loonies and thyat is here in the US. I was up in Canada a few years ago and spent them on lunch! I can't think of what it's called up there but it is french fries, gravy, and cheese. Yum!

Nice finds and taking time to show those children the joy of metal detecting and their first mercury dime speaks well of you and our hobby. I only hope I can be that patient if the situation presents itself. I tried to go metal detecting today and my nicad batteries were run down and I broke out the spare batteries and they also were down. So, I charging them up and catching up on the latest posts.
Tommorrow morning at 6 am I'm heading out to try my luck with plenty of fully charged batteries. HH and thanks for sharing.
