I was out detecting today in Cleveland, at an old school, that has been hunted out. The letters posted on this forum rolled through my head as I worked the playground enjoying a bonus day with good weather. People keep complaining that the Explorer is not perfect and I wonder if sometime in the future if I will be able flip the switch on my completely perfect detector and it will do the research, travel to the site and gather all valuables and return them to me so I can sit on the couch and veg. If and when that happens, it will be no fun or challange to do detecting. Today I started in iron mask, but it sounded like an amplified corn popper so I switched to my silver mask with the top 2/3 of the screen open and the rest black. I went slowely and dug anything that had a good element, sound, position of the cursor, repeat if only once every now and then, pinpoint over the same place as AC and depth at least 6 inches. I got fooled and dug several nails and rusty bolts and some odd pieces of gunk. Most of the targets were 9 to 11 inches. At the end of the day I had 4 Quarters, 3 Merc dimes, 6 Rosies,1 silver ring, 33 Wheats and 11 Memorial cents. Thats 13 silver coins where the other detectors could not reach. I had a great time and can not emagine how anyone could ask for a better detector than the Explorer. Granted I made some mistakes, but that is the fun and challange of detecting for me. If it were too easy, it would not be any fun. Don't be afraid to do some digging, after all the digger is the best discriminator made so far. I use the 2 in 1 stainless digger with a 24 inch handle, sold by Kellyco, so a lot of digging is easy for me. I am able to cut a nice plug and get down to the 14 inch level to recover what the Minelab finds and put it all back so that no one can complain. I cut a plug about 8 inches across if the target is deep and smaller if it is more shallow. I cringe when I see someone with a Minelab using a little hand digger. Good Luck to all.
