Headed out of town to a spot which has been generous to me in the past. I did get a pile of coins, a ring, a Coca-Cola button and a bullet which some fool fired it outside of a rifle. That's a good way to lose your eyesight or blow off a few fingers. Definitely material to receive the "DARWIN AWARD"
Cool! I wonder if somebody threw that live round into a fire? Any signs thats whats happened, or did some dope hit that shell with a hammer? My Uncle told me a story about tossing a live round into a campfire when I was a kid, so I've never done it myself to see exactly what would happen..I assume the case would rupture in such a fashion, including popping out the primer. I doubt the bullet would go flying very far since there was no barrel to contain the burst..but like I said, this is all conjecture on my part...
Mud
Nice little pile of goodies! I really like the Coke button!
I had a truck catch on fire one night, with about 200 rounds of 22lr in the console. There was a lot of popping going on, but that's about it, as far as I could tell. The truck burned to the ground except for the tailgate and rear end. So there were no remains to investigate, lol.
Cool Coke button. You must have a big set of clackers to be out in this wind and cold. By the looks of the long term weather the digs may be over around here on my next days off.
I didn't see any sign of what someone may have done to set that bullet off. It was probably some kid who stile some ammo from his dad and blew it up to see what would happen.
Not for this old boy. If I still had my old ACE 250 I would go for it. But I don't want to freeze my Tejon or ATP. It is time for me to switch over to ice fishing and or winter bush-craft/fire-making skills. I have some scruffies that need a good long olive oil soak also.

Hey guy's , can you ruin your MD in the cold ?
My answer:
Anything is possible! That being said I have detected in Alaska, Iceland, and New England year round. I have been in the ocean when you could not swing the detector because of the ice slush and in fresh water when I had to break the ice to detect and when I walked out of the water the water that was on my waders froze in just seconds.
On the other side I detected in temperatures over 100F.
What I have found on the net is that:
A Garrett Hand Held unit has Operating Temperatures -35º F (-37º C) to 158º F (70º C) and
Most detector have an operating range of at least 0ºF (18º C) to 130ºF (54º C)
Nothing specific about the AT-series op. Temps.
Well within my comfort range as I try to stay away from detecting in air temps below 30F and above the 100F mark. So I would say IF you can handle the temperature, your detector should be OK. I would worry more from the heat as the temperature inside a detector will probably get higher than the air temp if it is in direct sunlight and it is of a dark color (like the black ATPro).
