Our best day's total yet!

Today, we had the good fortune to find some virgin ground at a school not too far from home. It's not a particularly old school, but the playground held more than I thought it would and had obviously never been detected. Our total for about 4 1/2 hours was $68.82 plus an American quarter and a Canadian quarter! For those of you who say "Ah, it's not American money, so it means nothing to me...", with the current exchange rate of about 77 cents per dollar, that adds up to about $53US! Hey, I'd say that's a good day at the school playground in anybody's book!
BTW, what year did the Canadian coins change from silver to nickel? Can't remember.
I was using my Explorer II and my wife was using her GTI2500. I won this time! (Not that there's any kind of competition or anything:poke: )

According to my records, that puts us at just over $1442 since 5Oct05 (13 months). Cool!

Cheers,
Toby

Fantastic job! We can only dream of finding a site that would give up so much in a single day's hunt!

...Aint it the truth! It appears that detectors havent made much of a dent up in Canada. The sheer volume of goodies people turn up there is staggering.

I plan and hunt hard to make my quota (50 coin/junket), while our Canuck friends seem only to have to turn on their machines and stroll around to load up. John, Les, Spanky and the few other canadian blokes who post here, seem to prove this on a consistent basis.

Am I envious? Admittedly, so.

Metal detecting is pretty big down here, but the average person (non-MDer) assumes you're looking for gold, since prospecting is the more widely advertised activity. People often ask what we're doing in a playground or park. They just have no idea how much the kiddies drop and how much money is lying around out there just under their feet! Once in a while, we'll go to a new park and not find a single thing - obviously been hit before, so I know we're not the only ones out there doing this.
You're right, though. Some of those guys posting from Canada make it look pretty easy sometimes. It's hard to beat a target-rich area with very little trash, wherever you are!

Looks like you guys hit the jackpot. Great bunch of goodies. Wish coins were that plentiful down here.

Not doing to bad :detecting: here on the left coast :usaflag:

Again, aint the truth! Its the finding of such areas that is the diffuclt part. Nut, if there is one thing we detectorists are, its determined.

Great hunt Toby.
I think that I'll be hunting in school grounds over the next few weeks. The parks here in Dubbo have been picked clean recently.Hardly a coin in site.I'm thinking about hiring the use of one primary school. It has 900 students. I tried to get permission a while back, but wasn't allowed. I couldn't get the principle at the time. So I'll see if an approach this way will work. I meet a guy that jumped the fence about 9 months ago and he pulled out about $200 for his effort.
It is good to see some Aussie coins on the forum. I haven't been able to post mine, still trying to figure it out.
Keep up the good hunts.
