OUND THE PERMIT - GUESS WHAT IT SAYS ?

i found the permit for interstate state park in st, Croix falls Wis NO HUNTING ON TURFED AREAS get that i can hunt on the black top the wood chips the hard packed trails or on the rocks but not in the grass well thats 90 % of the finds this explanes why thear was so many quarters in the grass no one can hunt it even if you have a permit probley because somone was digging plugs and killing the grass and or leaving big holes i asked the ranger to see if he could tell whear i just dug he could not tell i use the slit and pull methode whear i just make a 2" slice and pry the coin out this methode does not kill the grass and leaves it as found i was digging plugs and found it killed the grass thats all folks and yes im blessed they did not take my detector away but i dint give the ranger any troble just do what he says no hastle he was nice about it

You did the right thing . To bad we all have to suffer because what a few may have done in the past . If I were you i would hunt the wood chips and trails , the trail edges may have some goodies to offer .. You do have a permit so your not breaking the law . Best of luck , There is allot of ground out there

Gunnar You did right by leaving.........You can not win. At best skirt around where you can hunt and hope you get a few goodies..Good Luck !!!

On dry grass its close to impossible to cut a plug that does not kill the grass in the plug , i usually avoid parks when the ground is dry because no matter how carefull i am i always get a few plugs that look like they will turn to brown rings. The grass seems to heal really fast when the ground is wet or damp . Its easy to understand why they dont want the grass digging though.

I too understand their concern about those occassional patches of dead grass... well unless you see what some of their lawn mower do to the sod... oh and the tents... ect. Most of the parks i hunt to include Corps and national forests have a standing policy you can hunt on previously disturbed ground.
