Other finds from Saturday....

I also found this 1945-S Mercury dime at the old railroad site. It may be a later drop because I believe the railroad shut down the station in the 1920's or 1930's at the latest. Also several old metal buttons, a real mother of pearl button by eyeball and my very first clay marble. I can't identify any of the buttons, maybe off someone's pants, but the one with the lyre-looking thing has a ring on the back like it may be off a coat or uniform. I haven't cleaned any of them yet, so please pardon the dirt.

Here are some of them. Not too exciting, but definitely some firsts for me! :clapping:

Thanks for looking.

Marc

That Railroad site looks like it's going to be a great place, you did good..........

Good finds you have there. By chance is that "clay marble" heavy and did the metal detector find it? IF so, I would say that was a musket ball. The button looks like it came from a band uniform of some type. Cool finds there and I bet there's many more treasures there. Thanks for sharing and HH, Nancy

Nancy, I have found some clay marbles here in OK. They are picked up by the detector but is a faint signal no VDI reading have also found some clay doll heads and Indian pottery.................... It might have something to do with the mineral make up of the clay.

Wow, that's cool. I guess the only way one would know if it were a marble or musket ball would be the weight? Thanks Bob for enlightening me! Hmm. COOL!

The "marble" is definitely not a musket ball. It isn't heavy and does not respond to the MXT. I've seen clay marbles before so I believe this is what it is. It's actually so light weight that I wonder how it could even be effective as a marble.

This is the same railroad site where I found the silver 1885 25 Centavos (the one I thought was some kind of weird quarter until I cleaned it) and a 1903 Barber dime recently, so it seems to be turning out pretty good so far. :wiggle:

Thanks to all for looking and for your comments!

Marc

I have to say, that's the first clay marble I've ever seen. I've learned something new about marbles. Thanks Marc and Bob!
