Any original soverign lovers out there? I just picked one up and would like to hear a few stories about them Thanks

Yes. The story is they stopped making them and upset so many people !! They better be working on something that will meet or exceed our expectations. I'll bet Whites comes out with something awesome. !! and I'm not really a Whites person. I see them working on something (I hope). I will miss the Sovereign GT. once mine fall apart !

I purchased a Sovereign XS in 1997 and ive had some amazing finds. my Oldest coin a 1818 large cent at 10 inch mark. It was found on an old homestead that ive hunted many times over the last 35 years.Ive been detecting 43 years and have used many other detectors. My first detector was a Jetco Treasure Hawk BFO. It had no discriminating capabilites so i dug all targets.I used other lunch box style detectors,Garret,Whites,Bounty hunter and Tesoro, and Fisher. All of those machines did there job, but after a lot of research, i found the full band spectrum multiple frequency detector appealling and purchased one.I went over some favorite old sites and was amazed what has been missed. The Sov XS goes deep. Zinc canning jar lids detected into gotta have a shovel range with no problem. I run my disc and notch at zero and listen to the tones in disc setting. A good digging a shovel is a must have and ive gone through several. My deepest find was a 4 foot long drop bit used for well drilling. Its a heavy piece of iron that is hoisted up the boom on a water well drilling rig and then dropped. This chunk of iron was very heavy and had to drag it out of the woods using the shovel as a sled. It was 4 feet in the ground and it being wider on one end put up a fight trying to get it out of the ground. If i would of exposed the wide end it would of been easier to extract. I learned a long time ago to dig up all targets.I hunted with a buddies dad when i was a kid and he had an old detector that had tubes in it and required a 67 1\2 volt eveready battery. This was back in the early 70`s.We were hunting an old homestead and he was digging on a signal and pulled out a cast iron stove plate. He went over the hole again and still had a signal so he kept digging .Down another 8 inches or so he hit a 1 gallon crock. after digging around it and getting it to the surface the crock was heavy. The crock was full of coins and whoever buried it sealed it by pouring wax over coins before burying it.I was about 9 years old at the time and became hooked on detecting.

Finishing the story about the crock of coins. I remember him cutting into the wax and the coins were silver and the ones i seen in the wax were seated liberty. I never did see the complete contents of the crock. It was kinda hush hush when i asked. Two years later the family moved away and i still wonder what else was in the crock.??? Now getting back to the topic of original sovereign series. This detector has full capability of going deep. Dig up everything ! When hunting an old homestead you could cherry pick it first by running some discrimination but by all means hunt it in all metal mode. There isnt a metal detector out there that can see the contents of a metal box or container or see through a chunk of iron with a jar of goodies below it .Happy Hunting......
