Original Sovereign, Special Edition

Here is a professional level modification that I did for my original Minelab Sovereign (purchased it brand new). Upon purchase I didn't like the Sovereign's S-rod/handle layout at all (awkward, poor balance, poor meter/control box placement & loose shaft joints). So I decided to adapt the detector to one of my favorite layouts, the Whites S Rod/T handle design, used on their SL models. This required purchasing a Whites S rod, with the T handle used on one of their lower end detectors that didn't support a meter (can't remember which one now) on top of the T handle. I designed & special bracket which would fit into the top of the hollow handle with a special plate (had a machinist friend of mine fabricate it for me) to attach the Minelab DigiSearch 180 meter, it fit/worked perfectly. I took the Sovereign control box and mounted it under the rear of the rod/armrest (under the forearm), like the Whites SL detector models and attached rubber feet on the bottom of the control box to support/protect it when set down. I adapted the Whites lower rod to accept the Sovereign CoinSearch & SeaSearch coils, job complete. The results, awesome balance, perfect meter placement, good looks & what a joy to use.

Thanks

Very nice Job!! How does that Seasearch coil work on the old Sovereign, Probably just about the same age...

The Seasearch coil works about as good (sensitivity, coverage & depth) as the Coinsearch coil on land, but I've never used it in the water, which of course is what it was specifically designed for. It is however quite a bit lighter and provided for better balance than the Coinsearch coil (which was especially true before the modification) for land use.

That looks like a quality conversion,i have always said that the Whites shaft setup was one of the best ever made, and guess what they have gone back to the horrible 'S' shaft again for the TDI sl version.

I have to admit i do like unusual modified detectors and yours certainly does looks very cool.
