Original Sov. question..

Dan-Pa.

New member
What was the difference between original Sov. and models made after it...Used several Sov. models but never used the original and can't remember the difference and pro's and con's on the difference...thanks, Dan

Dug up some old manuals and got the answer...Original Sov. had the option of iron mask on or off and didn't have a volume control..

Perhaps some old Sov. enthusiast might give opinions on the pro's and cons...rel the iron mask.....

Hi Dan,

Good to see you posting on this Sovereign forum again, means you are thinking about using a Sovereign again.
Just above on this BBS forum there is some info on the Sovereigns and this is one post from the different models of the Sovereigns.

Thanks Rick been a while and should read before I posted...Indeed Sov's were the only unit I ever used where I could tell a silver coin by the soft smooth audio the silver coin gave me...Adding a Sov. to the arsenal is sure an option as years ago found some nice silver using one...

Dan,I always enjoyed your posts and help on the CZ Forum. The places I search here in Michigan the Original Sovereign doesn't work well because of the hot rock appetite.I even put an all metal remote switch on my last Original to help ID the hot rocks. This toggle switch setup helped some but I was still digging too many hot rocks that sound and ID as deep silver.Other hunters have told me they had same problem with the Original. My suggestion pass on the Original and get another Sovereign model.Good Luck HH Ron

Hey Dan, I think you probably remember me? Anyway I had an original Sov for a while. It's a fine machine for sure but I actually preferred the next model up from there which was the Sov XS. The original really didn't do as well in the sensitivity dept. and the iron mask on/off switch always did better for me in the "on" position so that wasn't really a plus. The lack of target volume control was a minus unless you have really good headphones I supppose. I can't remember if it was simply maxxed out on that model or not. Also, I don't believe it had that shielding "cage" around the board internally like the others did. That helps with EMI interference. I can't say that with certainty though because it's been a while since I had one open. Good to see you again my friend. If your thinking about a used Sov though, I would stick to the XS and newer. I'm sure we'll swap a detector or two in the future as we have in the past. HH George Fatizzi

Hey George,
I think even the early XS models didnt have the shielding. Good memory on that.

Thanks guys and can't remember what I had for supper last night but knew the original had some drawbacks and appreciate your input which makes my decision much clearer...Can't beat good info from the pro's and thanks for sharing....
