Not sure where to post this, so I'll post it here. I live in Hillsboro Oregon, and from time to time, it gets lonely hunting. :) Anyone near me looking for a hunting buddy? That is, once this damned rain ceases and the ground is something a little less like chocolate pudding?

Greetings from the mouth of the Cowlitz.
Yeah, this cold wet spring is getting on my nerves too.

I dont mind the cold, its the wet that's preventing me from detecting. I tried a couple weeks back during a dry day, was very challenging to cut plugs and get the target out.

Get ahold of Monte--he lives in Oregon City.-----I'm clear on the other side of the state (eastern OR).------Del

I'm going to be in the Dalles tomorrow. I had intended to go detecting at Meyer State Park, not sure if I'm still going to be able to or not now though however.

I'm next door in Forest Grove. I hunted the fairgrounds in Hillsboro today!:tesoro:

Im jealous. I've wanted to hunt the fairgrounds for awhile now. I also want to hunt the grass parking lot by the tennis courts. I've been prevented from hunting in the fair grounds because the administration won't let me come in before 8 or after 5, which because Im working is my normal time to go hunting. And on the weekends they're not open unless something is going on, and then they wont let me hunt either, :( I havent been able to hunt the parking lot because the last few times I've gone over there when I've had time its been a swamp. And now its Easter Weekend, so I can't go hunt the parking lot. But as D&P said, how'd you do?

I started hunting there in the early 90's. I'ts really "Cherry Picked" lots of zincs, nickels and square tabs left. I did find a place that I was digging lots of beaver tails so I gotta search there more carefully. Found a little over $6.00. Had fun though

I get out whenever I can, and I also spend time doing research. Finding newer, less-worked sites is also fun to do.

You're welcome to e-mail me your name, address, phone and e-mail for contact and I will gladly get in touch with you. Maybe you can share with me the type of detecting you like to do, how long you've been at it, and what make/model detector(s) you use.

I'm with you regarding the very wet weather we've suffered through so far this year. I don't like to hunt in the rain, or wade through the soggy, muddy park lawns, but things are improving.

If you're interested in a monthly meeting for metal detecting hobbyists, I can add you to that contact list as well. We host a *FREE TO THE PUBLIC* get-together on the 2nd Saturday of each month for an educational program and to share some of the results we've enjoyed each month. Then, if the weather if favorable, we can all go detecting at a site after the meeting.

We are also working on a couple of sites for a group outing, one this summer and another one later. This might take place in June, the first trek, to Central Oregon.

Anyway, here is an opportunity to meet a group of people who have an avid interest in the metal detecting hobby, enjoy a monthly meeting and a day's detecting outing, and on top of that I will gladly meet up with you for some detecting.

You can shoot me an e-mail to: monte@ahrps.org

Happy Hunting,

Monte

I'll be sending you an email with my info, would love to join the club. Can't promise that I'll make every meeting, my fiance works a crazy schedule of 4 days working, then 2 days off, so her days off are almost never the same. I would love to join though. As for detecting, only been doing it for about a year, started with a bounty hunter tracker II that I was barrowing. Over a three month course last summer I found around 15 in clad, 2 silver rings, a bunch of trash and some other items. I've now switched to the Fisher F5 and am fumbling my way through it trying to get use to it. I got my first actual hunt in Saturday when I was in the dallas, didnt find much as I was trying to get the gain/thres combo to settle down and still get deep. I noticed on it that my fe03 bar was near max the entire time. So I'm guessing the park I was at had a seriously high amount of minerals in it which was causing my issues. I hope there's nothing wrong with the detector. I'd hate to have to send it to fisher already for a repair. As for the type of detecting I like to do, I like to coin shoot and jewelery hunt. Not really into relic collecting. I enjoy finding things in the ground, just wish that it wasnt tin foil most of the time. LOL I really wish I could sit down with someone who knows the F5 really well and hash out setting it up. I really can't tell if I've got my settings right or not when I'm out and about.

Detector is probably working fine Mez. Here in Oregon City my T2's Fe3O4 meter is pegged most of the time too :) Ground is full of black sand.

I called Fisher, spoke with both Felix and Daniel about it, both said even with a pegged meter I should be able to get over 50 / 0 gain / thres, and it shouldn't consistently chatter. So I sent it in, should get to them by Thursday.

Hi all,

Im in Portland but do travel some in the upper valley. Lets meet up sometime!:detecting:

Wow thats quite the assortment of metal detectors you've got there. Have you ever been in Hillsboro? Namely at the new water park behind Hawthorne Farms Intel? Can't remember what its called. I ran into someone there once with the V3i, I was using a Bounty Hunter Tracker II at the time, and my headphones broke while I was there.

Hi,

No I havent been to Hillsboro. One of the many places I want to go but just havent been there yet. I have been lucky as 98 percent of the things Ive found have been very very close to home.

Maybe we can meet up sometime?

James

Well speaking from my experiences so far with the bounty hunter, there's not much here. Your sig of one penny at a time isnt far from the truth, lol. I havent had a chance this year to do detecting with my new F5, as I had to send it back to fisher to be checked out for a coil / board issue and plus the weather has not been kind enough to allow for it either. Where abouts are you?

I seem to find quite a bit wherever I go....some places more than others. I have a 505...its a decent detector but you should have something better someday, to find more stuff....I just learned that from experience.

I am in sw portland...not too far away from the zoo.

Here are pics of some of my stuff in 1.5 years and about 9000 coins to date.

Lo all, finally got a chance to swing this morning, been soo long and finally got the F5 back this week. Decided to try the Hillsboro Fairgrounds Parking lot next to the tennis courts. I figured, what the heck, this is where everyone walks back to their cars after a long day, or a long night at concert, should be something here. Well.... There was something alright, a ton of trash and a giant bag of fail, :( If you're thinkin about hittin here, better bring a jack hammer to get through the extremely hard packed ground, and as well as a very large trash bag. Crossing this off my hopeful list. lol
