Oregon Trip Photos by Gerry's Detectors

Gerry in Idaho

Below is the nice 20 gram specimen Gus found with his GPX-4500. This was the 1st nugget we found that week using PI's. It was also the largest one that week.

This was the 2nd nugget of the trip found. Yes, it was the 2nd largest of the trip. Just under 1/4 oz.

I finally break the ice and score a nugget on the last day of the trip. This was the 3rd largest of the trip. Just at 4.4 grams...Heck..I'll take it.

The last day (we only hunted for 1/2 a day) was my best. I scored all 3 nuggets that day in about 30 minutes.
GPX-4500 with Commander 10" ellip DD did it's job quite well.

We did manage to find a few non-gold items too. I'll post those later.

Enjoy the photos.

Hi Gerry, nice nuggetts. I live in south central Oregon and have done some prospecting on Eagle Creek. Most of my dredging was done in northern Cal. Back in those days the metal detectors just would not pick up gold very well. I am heading out for southeastern Oregon near the southwestern Neveda border. I wonder if it would be worth my time. I wonder if anyone has had any success in that area or should I go north more towards Eagle Creek and the Baker city area?. My detectors aren't the greatest either. Tesoro gold demon, whites dfx and garrett infinium. Maybe I will have some blind luck. That country you are in looks like northeastern oregon or the JohnDay area. Nice nuggets though. Nice biguns. I know nuggetts have been found in northwestern Neveda but I don't know of any being found on the Oregon side of the border. I would appreciate any feed back on this. Thanks Gerry for reading.

Gerry, You take about the best photos of anyone I know. :clapping:
Thanks again for a great time, and I hope to get back out with you again soon.
Gus-

Buffalo earl... your Infinium is a great nugget finder. Dont dismiss it. I found 9 dwt of nuggets with mine this Feb-April. All near the Klamath river around I-5 crosses.

Thanks Alan for the reply. I also know of a sweet spot on Eagle Creek in North East Oregon. I was there 30 years ago and some big nuggets came out of the area. With the Infinium I know I can come out of there with some big nuggets. I am crippled up with arthuritus pretty bad in the knees so can't walk too far these days. My wife and I are planning a trip to Eagle creek in July. On the Klamath river gold, is it on the California side or on the Oregon side? Maybe we can meet up on the Klamath sometime in the future . We are only about 140 miles from Klamath Falls. Probably not much farther than that to where you hunt. Have you ever hunted near Happy Camp? I met Dave McKracken down there in 1985. He had a hugh 8 inch dredge he was running in the river. I ran my 5 inch Keene for a couple days but too deep of overburden and I didn't like the big eels than would swim around you while dredging. They gave me the creeps. Hope to meet up with you in future. Let us know if you want to meet up on the Klamath. I read the replies almost daily. Later my friend.

BuffaloEarl, My #1 eye catcher is "old mining activity". If it is in the area, then I am willing to spend some time looking for gold.
I myself have not detected SE Oregon, but that does not mean there is no gold.
Since I have a place in the hills in Eastern Oregon, it just makes since for me to detect around there.
As for machines you mentioned. All 3 can find gold if it is large enough and you swing your coil over it. Knowing how to get the most out of your detector is more important than having the newest model. After all, the Gold Bug-2 has been around for 10+ years and still one of my favorites in many situations.
Good Luck.

Gerry

Thanks Gerry for the nice reply. I hope you and Gus find a ton of gold over there. I know a great sweet spot on Eagle Creek but would have to be over there to show it to you. A place where some hydraulicing was done illegally and they did not know what they were doing . The gold is still waiting there to be picked up. It can't be very deep as they blew off all the overburden then quit when they got to the gold. IDIOTS! Later my friend. MAY YOU FIND ALL THE GOLD YOU WANT!
