I ordered my 250 today from Kellyco (BACK ORDERED) Ordered it with standard, 9x12 and sniper. Also ordered with covers, however they told me that there was not a cover available for the 9 x 12. I am sure that I have read posts that some of you have a cover for this coil. ???????????:stars:

i have been coin hunting thirty two years and never wore a coil out yet for my type hunting the cover is a waste of money.

Are covers needed for the standard and sniper?

The sniper really doesn't need one, as it pretty
much has one built on. It's bottom is plastic,
not epoxy like the other two larger coils..
But.. I have one for the sniper anyway, as I didn't
know that when I ordered the cover. So I have double
protection..
As far as the stock coil, and the 9x12, they are
both epoxy coils, and I prefer to use the covers.
Sure, they are fairly tough, but they can be chipped
if you bump anything hard like rocks, etc.
So I always use a cover on those. When I first
bought the 9x12 coil, the garrett covers were not
available yet. So I made one from thin cardboard and tie
wraps until I got the real cover. It worked fine,
and protected the coil. I finally got a 9x12 cover
from Rons detectors. He got a batch of them after
they started churning them out. So anyway, yes,
they do make a 9x12 coil cover.
I prefer the covers myself. They keep the coil like
new, and they can often let you scrub the ground
closer without worrying about chipping the coil.
I didn't want a bunch of chips on mine. I've had
the 250 over a year now, and if you pull the covers
off my coils, they still look shiny and brand new.
I'll pull the covers and clean everything now and
then. As some have mentioned, if you get dirt buildup,
etc, under the covers, that can cause some falsing
if any metal particles are in the dust. But so far,
I haven't had this problem. Probably cuz I pull the
covers and clean them every once in a while.
