Ordered an F70

osgood

Well I ordered the F70. It needs a few days to get here. The first place Im headed is to that cellar hole I mentioned before. I may have a bunch of ? for you all. Is there a place to see the operators manual on line so I can get a head start before the machine arrives? Ordered the 11"DD with it. I love my F4 but hear the F70 can go deep if set up right. Thanks, Osgood

Look at compilation 1 and 2 (two forum topics) on dankowskidetectors.com
Also look at the info on fisherf75.com
A lot of concepts that apply to the f75 also apply to the f70.
Just be for warned that these are very sensitive to emi/other interference.
If you are in an iron infested area dont be afraid to raise the thresh hold to +9, and lower the sensitivity to 10-25. You still get good depth and it seems to separate targets very well.

Would be better a quieting it down in heavy iron? I sometimes have to back it to -6 or so to steady it out. I'm still hitting big iron that way, so maybe I'll try your suggestions!

I recently combined the F70 with the 11" dd coil. I was getting great depth with the stock coil but now its just insane. I'm now looking for a deeper digging tool to go with it.

Osgood I have about 50 hours on my F70 and I have been complaining about it being a noisy detector. Of course it is when you don't have it set up right. Just found that out a few days ago. I was using setting by others here on the forum. Don't depend on them. They may work and they may not. So I am using setting of others but still digging deep coins but noisy as heck. Well I am digging deep coins so I will put up with the noise. Wrong!!! I started dropping sensitivity and raising threshold. What a difference. I was also using Dp tones. But tried 2F, much easier for me. Having it set up right for your area it can be quiet, not super quiet, but quiet. It is a pleasure to swing and detect with the F70. I have been digging very deep coins with lower sensitivity. It kind of throws out the old crank up the sensitivity and push ahead. Osgood experiment with the sensitivity, threshold and tones. Don't be like me and wait all those hours before I started to adjust the detector and experiencing the exceptional detector that the F70 is.You have to listen for those deep targets they are there and they show up more than you would think. Here I kind of sound like an expert, I am not and I am far from being an expert. I am just starting to get the way the F70 works. I am so surprised by the difference in performance, I feel like I made a real break threw. I have been trying from -6 to 90 and +9 to 30 threshold and sensitivity. You can see if may take awhile but crank those threshold numbers around and see what happens to the target?
Thanks for reading ....Z

the on my next hunt. This threshold tweaking reminds me of the coinstrike (my #2 all time favorite detector after the F70)!

Wayne I did not try each and every setting between -6 to +9 threshold and 30 to 90 sensitivity (-6/90) (+9/30) these where the extremes I went to. But tried some and found out it worked quite well on +8 threshold and 45 sensitivity. This is beach detecting. Lake Michigan beaches and these settings worked on 4 beaches. Still think I must adjust or fine tune but I have no idea what I am doing??? I will just keep adjusting and finding out. It is a learning process for me and it is my way of doing it. It is an experiment and I hope I don't get members all upset because this doesn't work for them. I think everyone must try for themselves in their area for best results.
I had the settings this morning and dug 27 coins and 12 coins were down 8" or more. Of these 12 coins dug a 1941 nickel, 1963 nickel. So the F70 has gotten 1942, 1946, 1948, 1939 nickels and a 1916 wheat all down 8 plus inches. Thanks for reading....Z

I have never tried doing that but you can bet I will next time I go out and when I get a deep signal I will play around with the settings to see if it hits stronger using another setting. These forums are great. Very much appreciated. John

and I really appreciate the tips. I'm going out Saturday and I can't wait to try the mods to thresh/sens that you've mentioned.
We're all here to learn, and its great when someone comes up on a way to get that little edge. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks John and Wayne for the replies.
Once I get a good setting I use it for a few hours so I get to know what the tones sound like. It seems to change the targets reactions, so I try to get used to the sound so I have some kind of base to adjust what I am doing. Your input would be very helpful guys. Another thing I ground grab a lot. I notice when I have been moving some distance the reading can change from 1 to 5 points on the ground balance. I gg every time I change anything on the detector, move to wet sand, deep sand, shallow sand, detector gets noisy, move some distance or haven't gg'ed for some time. I did this with the Safari and I was digging deep coins and lots of coins on beaches that the season hadn't started yet. Me and the seagulls were out there.
I am not a technical guy. I have no idea what terms to use but does it matter as long as you get results? I am retired and don't care to spend years learning something. At my age 2 years, to me could be a life time, so I don't want to fool around. Just get results as quick as possible and as painless as possible.
Here are yesterdays results. 27 coins, 12 were deep ones.
