JUst ordered a GT from Mission metaldetectors in coon rapids MN figured it will go just a bit deeper than my musketeer, wich I may be selling to offset some of the cost mike is a great guy and i know i can trust him and give a good price and is very knowledgible in metaldetecting i have wanted to get this machine for so long i was converted to minelabe after using the musketeer and sing its ability in all metal to get thru the most hellish mineralized ground and still get great depth the musky is great in all metal at ignoring 22 shels with the bigger coils and still hits hard on coins i have heard the GT is deeper cant wait to try it out Gunnar MN

No its a GREAT machine! You chose wisely.

Gunnar, give yourself a month on the Sovereign and you will see the strong points of of this detector. My suggestion use only the Sovereign only, another unit for a crutch will mess up the learning curve.

Try to find a 180 meter..or a 550..

You will wonder why you bought this detector that has so many different sound, I am sure most of us did. You will probably hate it at first, then use it more for a while and start to see it has some strong points and the tones are making sense a little. After 20 or so hours you will start to like it a little more and every time out with it you will learn something new, after a month or so you will be glad you got a Sovereign and your finds will start getting better and deeper. The next you know you will love the Sovereign like many of us do once you know it.
Recommend the 180 meter and the S-1 Probe as these make the Sovereign so much better and easy to use.

Good luck

Rick

I got mine about two months ago second hand. I read a lot of write ups on this forum about it so I knew what to expect with all the different sounds etc. I consider myself to be an experienced X-Terra 705 user and the Sov GT is a whole new ball game for me.

I had a love-hate relationship with it for the first few weeks until I realised that I had it set at maximum sensitivity instead of AUTO! No wonder it was making all kinds of bleeps and bloops and falsed intermittently. Anyway, now I have it under control I think. I love this machine.

First real find for me by the Sov GT is a 1918 Aussie florin (92.5% silver) which is about the size of your half dollar. Then the most awesome find ever earlier this month, my first gold coin - an 1857 Half Sovereign found on the beach.

This baby goes deeeeeeeep (especially when you have it set at maximum sensitivity

You're gonna love it.

One word of advice...read the manual over and over and over and over again.

Cheers

The biggest problem for me was getting used to the longer drawn out response. Coin sized targets felt like they much bigger so it took me a while to get a feel for that. Screw caps were also a problem until I learned their language. Be forewarned though, I have dug coins that acted like screw caps because of being on end or in trash, so I dig those when they aren't all over the place. They make a worbly sound and the ID will change from 180 and lower down to like 176.

i had a Musky about 6 years ago and then bought the GT and never looked back.in my 40+ years of hunting iv not seen anything to compair to the Sovereign and iv owned them all!

I have the GT for only a couple of months. I took it to the dirt just a few times. I am shallow water surf hunter.I have owned many machines in my 38 years or so.I haven't had it long enough to be an expert. Targets are larger and louder than I am use too! they are deeper too! I get a gong that I expect to be right on top and the coin is 6 or 8 inches down!
Today it got it first gold. Needless to say i am quite pleased!
