Ordered a lower shaft lately?

Has anyone ordered a lower shaft for an X-tera 705 lately? I ordered one 8 weeks ago from the dealer I bought my X-tera from, and he says they are still on back order, along with several detector models. I am going to go ahead and try to find a dealer that has the shaft in stock as I hate changing coils without it.. Can you suggest a dealer that might have them in stock?

How much are lower shafts. I know the lower shafts for the Exp/ET type of detectors are pretty expensive. I ordered several lower shafts for a V3 and they were 10 bucks each. The Exterra lower shaft looks like the same type of shaft as the White's. I will want 3 or 4 when I get a 705 and I hope they aren't very expensive.

I was told the Tesoro lower shafts work with the X-Terra 70. So look into it and try one for yourself to find out.

Yes Minelab is swamped with orders for some metal detector models and cannot make them fast enough. They also have a huge contract to make de-mining detectors used to find land mines.

Cool, thanks!

Be careful when using other makes/models of lower shafts with detectors. Although some of them may have the same diameter tubing, the part that goes between the ears of the coils would be wider or more narrow. If it is wider, you could break off one of the coil ears trying to get it slipped in place. If it is narrower, your coil is going to flop around until you tighten the bolt too tight, possibly resulting in a coil ear being broken. In addition, White's uses a holding clip that snaps through two holes on the sides of the middle rod. Minelab uses a single clip design that aligns with holes in the bottom of the middle shaft. So even if the White's rod did fit the coil and the middle rod, you'd have to remove the locking clip, drill a hole in the bottom of the rod and reinstall the clip.
I actually use an Advantage (or Sovereign) lower shaft for one of my X-Terra coils. The tubing diameter is the same and it has the single clip. It is just a bit wider where it bolts up to the coil. But as some folks have expressed, a few of the coils seem to have wider "ears" than others and some have broken off one of the ears while trying to tighten the bolt. I am NOT recommending that anyone go out and buy a Sovereign or Advantage rod to be used with their X-Terra. I am simply stating that I use one with a specific X-Terra coil that seems to have too much space between it's ears. No pun intended. JMHO HH Randy

I just purchased a lower shaft for my X-Terra-70 from a company in Richmond Va. I paid $32.00 for the shaft plus $6.95 shipping and handling. I can't seem to find the bill and can not remember the name of the co...sorry. TomB

Hey Dan, the 10.5 DD 7.5 coils are on back order too. I sent in a coil that has broken ears on Dec 8th for warranty replacment and I still have not receiced the replacement one yet. I hope it doesn't take too much longer to get the new coil.

Randy and David, regarding using a Tesoro lower shaft with the X-terra, the same is true as with the White's. The Tesoro uses two side clips and the width between the ears is a bit wider than the Minelab's. That could be an easy fix with a thicker rubber washer on each side, but since I still use the Tesoro from time to time I won't try to adapt to the Minelab just yet. I want to see if I can find a dealer that has the Minelab in stock. Then, I guess I will have an extra shaft to another coil should I get one later on. By the way, my dealer charged me $27.95 and ships free (anything over $20.00) He is in same state, so a state sales tax does apply.

The X-terra shafts are a bit pricey compared to Tesoro and Fisher. My experience is about $10 for each of those.

and was told they have 7 lower rods for the X-Terra in stock. HH Randy
