Orange barrels, orange barrels everywhere I see

Larry (IL)

Well-known member
A city park was adding a new parking lot and I was too late before they added the rock to where they scraped off 12 inches of the dirt but I did get to the dirt piles and saved a few goodies before they truck the dirt off to who knows where. I thought this was the perfect place to use my orange construction vest....... it worked like a charm, lots of :wave:but no one stopped me from hunting or asked questions...........

The Merc is a 1923 and the IH is a 1897, three wheats and the play knife is stamped Made in the USA... I love the 1889 Dog Tax tag, I think that has to be my oldest dog tag ever.

Good one, Larry. Some friends and I went to a site this morning where they had scraped an area where there were some early 1900's dwellings. We got there a day too late. They put up a hail storm fence around the area with no trespassing signs on Friday. :heh:

Larry, what do you think would happen if someone questioned you about the orange vest and found out you were not a city worker?

I would guess you don't answer many questions. There is no law against wearing a orange vest that I know of.

Jason

Put on a hard hat too. There's no law about wearing a vest or a hard hat. It's to protect you from getting run over or a meteorite hitting you in the head.

Ahh! I guess that would work if there weren't any "no trespassing" signs. I might have to give this a try. The workers in the parks around here, when working on the parks and there are piles of dirt around, have always told me to leave or the piles are behind a fence with a "no trespassing" sign. One of the older parks around here had a security guard posted and told me he was instructed to call the cops if anyone came around. Guess it's just my dumb luck to have park rangers that are not that friendly.
Great finds in the piles. I especially like the dog tag.

I try to answer most questions but you have to give me a little more than 8 minutes to respond....... I don't live on the computer 24/7.

If someone asks questions, I am polite and answer them, the object of the vest is I was hunting in a construction zone even though no one was working on a Saturday, I'm sure the police would have asked anyone that did not belong in there to leave. Just a little deception is all and you are right, anyone can wear an orange vest.

I've thought of it before because I wear a hard hat and vest at work and always have them in my car. It would be best used on sidewalk strips close to the road and if anyone asks you can say looking for utilities. You will not stand out believe it or not more with the vibrant colors than withought. Go figure. Good saves Larry, and it never hurts to do a little homework about where the dirt is being hauled away to. A local mall here in NY had fill dirt brought in from somewhere to fill in the islands of its parking lots and it is chock full of 19th century ceramics. There has to be some coin in there.

That is why I bought the vest, to use near the road in tear-outs, I wouldn't lie about what I was doing there though. I might say something like " I'm looking for historical artifacts" depending on who was asking. I have followed the trucks before but this place is an hour away from me....... I'll just have to let this one go.
