Options for better depth in mineralized soil-Silver U-max is what I have now

I really like my Silver & in good soil conditions(we have a mixed bag) it gets very deep. I pulled a .22 spent lead from about 7" after I got it. Nice loamy soil & no adjacent trash.

But in the real world-and my back yard-we have a lot of very mineralized rocks. On my 10 x 12 coil it has to be set to near minimum on sensetivity in the really bad stuff. Also I get deep falses & wonder if it a rock in otherwise decent soil. The stock coil is less affected but on both a coin buried 5-6 inches is about as deep as I can scan in the rock/soil mix.

I mostly look for coins in parks. The added problem is the soil is very active hear & even 10 year old coins are 3-4 " deep.

So- do I consign myself to 5" or less in these areas?. Would a widescan get any deeper in the real world?.

Or save up for???.

Is any brand going to get beyond 8" in bad soil?

Cheers!

I have gotten scrap smaller than a dime at 6" with my tejon in bad soil with the 5.75 wide scan. primary All metal though...and i dont think 2nd dary disk will detect

Your Silver is factory preset ground balanced machine and the bigger coil you put on there may not be balanced to it perfectly. If you have mineralization in your area, you really should have a manually ground balanced machine. That would allow you to swap coils without fear and GB your machine to match the soil conditions.

For your Silver, Tesoro offers to GB coils to the machines. If you send your Silver in with all your coils, they will balance the mahcine to the coils. Its a free service, all you have to do is pay the postage there.

It sounds like a DD coil would help you. They "see through" mineralization better than concentric coils.

Scully's Right, One of Tesoro's dd coils is probably what you need & after you pick the size you want I'd send it in too and have them adjust your silver to it.

When you have them "adjust" it is that not compromising the GB on the concentric and then you would be better off just using the DD? I am going to a 7" round widescan to use in bad soil but I dont want to adjust because its a coin killer w/4" sniper. Saving for Deleon to use with my 12x10. I can swing the sniper all day on the Silver. While I get only 3" in ground I find alot of jewelery.

Occasionally here where I am in Texas I'll get a nice smooth signal and dig an iron ore rock... Our soil is ok, but sometimes these things will confuse a detector... no matter which brand or model you choose. The Concentric is all we need here but every once in a while there's that rock with just enough iron in it to fool a detector. It's happened with all of my detectors, but not enough to warrant sending one in or getting a DD coil. Sounds like your issue is more prevalent than what I have run across here.
