I read in Drudge that 10,000 abandoned houses, including ones that are pre-1900, will be razed in the Detroit area. In the larger scheme of things, that represents a tragedy, the continuing decline of the US. But in the immediate term, that could be an opportunity to scan a lot of old house sites for coins. Living on the Left Coast, I won't make the trip, however.

Dan,I don't think the City of Detroit nor the neighborhood is going to let you hunt these abandoned houses.Even if you could the risk is just too great. Ron
Dan h I live not that far from there and I am trying to get a job with some of the wrecking company's .Just for the very reason you mention . But the city is very dangerous you never go unarmed I don't care if you have a permit to carry or not only a fool go's unarmed . Winter is the best time to hunt the city and with a bunch of guys .
Winter in Detroit you would need a jack hammer.My friends usually complain I go into bad area's,but I carry know the area and on the scale of danger from a 1-10 probably a 3 with Detroit being an 11.Better bring a swat team
