I have been thinking of selling my 2 garrett 250's and buy me an Xterra 50. I do mostly coin and jewelry land hunts. Is this a good idea. Pro's and cons appreciated. Thanks guys.

Well as popular as the Ace is you will be able to sell them quick and at decent money. Now as to the X-Terra 50. IMHO if you can swing it get the 70. It just has quite a few more features that really make it nice. I know you say you are a coin shooter. Well do you think you may ever get to the beach? If so the 70 has a beach mode. Oh and do not forget the prospecting mode. Take some time and read through the faqfaq on the two units.

Now if after that, and because of the price you still want the 50, well go for it. You will still have a heck of a machine that will do you very well using it, Beale.

I would be the first to defend the Ace 250's. I have one that I made waterproof for fresh water hunting. I also have another for a back up detector for the 70. But to be honest the 50 is quite a bit nicer in features and target tones than the Ace 250. It weighs about the same too. But it costs a lot more. Just having the ability to manually adjust your GB on the 50 makes it better.

I am really liking my new XT70, but the Ace 250 with the sniper coil is a tough combination to beat in the tot lots.

That's a pretty tough call there.
The advantages of the X-Terra over the Ace, is an easier to read screen, the X-Terra's have nicer tones than the Ace. The small coil is better for covering ground than than sniper coil. you can also get DD coils for the 50. You also have a volume control that the Ace doesn't have.
The Advantages that the Ace has over the X-Terra's is that it's 100 grams lighter. With the large coil on, it weighs the same as the X-Terra does with it's standard coil on. the Ace has an absolute killer of a pinpoint feature that is far more accurate than the X-Terra and gives off a tonne more target information that the X-Terra's just can't match. The X-Terra's VCO is pretty good, but not in the same class as the Ace. The VCO really helps in the sizing of targets if they are shallow.
If you are looking for something a bit different than the Ace, then the X-Terra is a good choice. Out of all the light weight machines on the market, the X-Terra's and in particular the 70, have the most pleasant on the ear and eye plus high end features on the market. If you don't like it, then you can always sell it and get another Ace again down the track. No point if you die wondering which was best.
Mick Evans.
