I'm having a heck of a time deciding between the Anderson Excalibur Long Shaft - 0811 (behind the elbow?) and the Lightning Rod for Excalibur for the Excal 1000. I will be mainly beach and sand hunting and some VERY shallow water hunting. Trying to keep from getting fatigued to much from swinging. Any input will be appreciated!

Thanks!

SJA :)

I like behind the elbow. i tried the over /under. My arm just ached. Behind the elbow keeps the weight off. Maybe different for you. Everybody aches in a different spot. Getting old sucks.

I like the behind elbow type too as the balance is great and the control box doesn't need to have a knob guard as it doesn't bang into your kidneys the way the under elbow does, also if you put the control box on backwards the headphone wire comes almost straight up and no pulling, the PP/disc switch is closer to hand too especially if you use reverse hunting method

Also with behind elbow method in knee/waist depth the control housing is out of the water and so less drag, under-over in that depth its almost submerged and more drag

I've got to try to talk my friend into letting me build him a custom shaft for his Excal. I can't believe how heavy and unbalanced that thing is, and I like the idea about behind the elbow to lower the drag in the water. I'll at least try to get him to spring for one of Pluggers shafts or something. He's got a ton of money to blow with all the rings he's found over the years.

thats the shaft i use , fantastic value and balance

I keep hearing about these "Pluggers shafts" . . . anyone have a link to find them?

Hi SJA, Just Type in www.rodsbyplugger.com and that should put you on Bill's Wedsite!! If not, do a Google search for Rods by Plugger!! Also, I had a SOV-GT Plugger Shaft, until I sold my GT to Plugger!! Anyway, they are EXCELLENT Quality at a VERY FAIR
Price!! Hope this helps!! HH, Les Robinson
