Opinions on this bullet.

I found this bullet in Remington, Virginia last week and would like your opinions on it.

The hole in the top of the bullet is 1/2" deep.
The hole is around 1/8" diameter, no threads, and no rust.
It has been fired as the rings are compressed.
The impact created a "dome" effect on the star.

I think it was fired with the ramrod/ramrod with attachment in the barrel. Any ideas?

Looks like it had a worm in it.

Thanks for the replies. I also showed the bullet to three civil war relic sellers and they believe the bullet was fired with the ramrod. All three agreed with Digger70pa that it was wormed or had the worm attachment on the rod when fired.

Very neat find. In the chaos of battle he could of had to make a quick shot. Or possibly he did it intentionally. Cool find!

Probably got jammed, then attempted to worm & pull. Possibly another round rammed on top of it, then fired together. Just a thought.

I agree with Richard about your theory. Great unique find. I dare say you'll ever see another one like it.

I agree. Looks like ramrod marks to me. It would kill ya just the same at close quarters. CCH

It was made at the Washington arsenal (star base). The mushroom effect took place after the bullet was fired from the barrel.
