Opinions on new explorer???

Hi, Used to have a minelab EXII, but never got the hang of it. I know they are great machines and am sure if I had heard of this forum when I had it, I probably would have kept it. Was wondering if the new one is better than the II was? Also if anyone has tried any 5" coil with it. Also any hunters near western Mass? Here's a better Conn (1785) I found a bit ago. Thanks for any help.

I don't know about the SE, I have the EX-2.
Stock coil and SunRay X-5 Stealth coil. The X-5 coils works good for me in trashy areas. Haven't tried other small coils so I have nothing to compare.
Wish I would have known of this forum sooner also.

I use an SE and also use an X-5 coil which I like for trashy areas so its on the machine most of the time. I also use an 8 and a 1050. I had an Explorer to start with but I love the SE. Great machine once you learn it and how to tweak it.

and loved it. One of the best things about the explorer series are your coil choices, there's just so many options its not funny. I sold my Exp II to a friend and he wont part with it. He uses a coiltek 14" DD coil with it and cleans up! Man he covers alot of ground with that thing. The only problems I had with it was power consumption and the weight, apart from that it was a brilliant detector. I now use an X-Terra 70 and love it to death because its more suited for what I like to hunt. I have never tried the SE so cant say anything about it.
Cheers!

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably find a Minelab dealer to get a demonstration. I 'd love to see it in the hands of someone who knows how to use it before it reaches my green hands. As much as I have grown up with a White's (since 1974) I did locate a half cent near a nail with the Minelab, when I had for that short period. I does seem to have a certain advantage over my DFX sometimes. Thanks for the input.

Have had original explorer for maybe 8 years.Still think its my best. When i switch to 5 inch[original ?] i tend to find more deeper nickles, rings and small items at low tide where iron and etc. used to be a problem.

You got to be patient to learn any machine ...no matter..what model or make...
DUDE>>>if you are in western MA...mad area of colonial history...you should take a time out.... grab your md. and find some spots that may produce trust me it's not your md ...it's you....be patient you'll find em

Thanks. I plan on using it on iron infested foundations. Do you swing the machine a lot slower than other brands? George

Hi, I agree. I've done excellent with my DFX (since I have used White's since '74). But I was going about the Minelab like I was swinging a White's. It is a completely different animal from what I gather. Would love to pick up the new Explorer with a 5" coil and maybe a 14 or 18" coil. Have plenty of sites to re-try with the EX. Thanks for the info. George
Thanks. I plan on using it on iron infested foundations. Do you swing the machine a lot slower than other brands? George
yes you do swing it slower BUT remember it is still a MOTION detector so use all metal and ferrous sounds and go SLOW but not TOO slow and you will be able to pick out the good from the bad pretty easily
