Opinions on best Garrett for relic hunting...

Dumb question I know, as they all will find stuff. But if you were going to hunt mainly relics, out in the fields, which GARRETT, no other brands allowed, would you use? Thanks in advance and not trying to open any cans of worms. Good luck and HH. Bob.

Personally, I would use the Scorpion Goldstinger. It's a beep-dig machine, full all-metal, manual ground balance and hits targets in the Relic range really hard. It's not a real depth monster, but I dug a skeleton key running in Disc mode, Initial Settings, Auto GB, that was up to my elbow deep and I've got Long arms, so that's plenty deep for me. Really one of my favorite Garrett machines to hunt with, JMHO!!

The GTI 2500, large 12 1/2 Imaging coil in true all metal mode ground balanced to the soil. Now that is in the fields, as it will get fantastic depth and cover a large area muck quicker. It it was quite trashy, I would opt to use the stock imaging coil.

Since Relic Hunting amounts to nothing more than finding junk, trash, scrap, and debris. left over from a war - any of the Garretts with all metal would work just fine. Just depends on what price range you have in mind and what features you may want. Bear in mind one doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles to find junk, debris, and scrap. That would narrow it down to the 2500 - Scorpion - CX..The Scorpion is probably the most versatile detector Garrett has and a triple threat as it is a coin, relic, and gold hunter.

Yeah BCD, that would be my choice for relics and just all around hunting if my choices were narrowed down to one machine.

I did have 2, but sold one to one of my hunting buddies, Nugget Bill. He goes nugget hunting in Arizona during the winter months. I still feel the loss!!

the fact that my first modern metal detector was a garrett cxIII back in the early 1990's(92??). My first ever detector was an older garrett beep/dig, model unknown, in the early 80's.
I picked up a like new cxIII a couple of weeks ago. It had just been sent back to Garrett to get refurbished and tweaked and recalibrated. It looks and works awesome. I even found a 2 box attachment for it. Should be able to detect cannonballs with it, right? It was a newer model with the power master circuitry upgrade that came out in 96 and later I think. I'm thinking of taking Garrett up on turning in the old style 8.5 inch coil for a newer rhino 7x10 coil for a 40% discount. Any opinions on that?? Or get a new 10x14DD coil for it??
I'm even taking the drastic step of selling off my mint cz70pro setup and just use the garrett all season in order to get ready for a relic hunt put on by another forum this coming January. I always get too wound up and never do anything half way. Keeps life interesting. Really like this garrett forum. keep the posts coming. Good luck and HH. Bob.

Sounds like you got a good deal on the CX. With a two-box you're loaded for bear. :) Unless you'll be hunting in highly mineralized soil only I would pass on the 10x14 and take the Rhino as it is more stable and a helluva lot tougher than the original coil. It's also slightly heavier. I have a field test on the 10x14 over at losttreasure.com if you want to take a peek. I field tested the CZ7aPro for Fisher way back many moons ago when they were still Fisher and made real detectors. :) It's a great machine but then so is the CX.

Keep us posted on your success and progress.

It will go deeper on out of VLF reach items.

Yeah I forgot to toss that one in mainly because of the learning curve between a VLF and a API but since one digs everything relic hunting the Infinium would be a defenite go with its awesome depth.
