...if the detecting conditions were the same which coil would be deeper, and by how much??? I'm comparing the 18" Bigfoot vs. the Whites 6 X 10 DD. I know the Bigfoot covers alot of ground but, which coil would you use if the targets are 5 to 8 inches deep??

Hands down the 6X10. I get 4 to 5 inches with the Bigfoot and that is with a slow swing speed in high mineralized soils, 7 to 8 inches with the 6X10 under the same conditions and targets. The 6X10 is my main hunting coil and I use the Bigfoot for covering sports fields and beaches where I am looking for surface targets and want to cover a lot of area in a short amount of time.

Which machine DFX, XLT ?
The Bigfoot has its coil windings only a couple of inches apart so your never going to get super depth but it should get most U.S. coins at the depth you want (not small U.K. hammered/Roman). The Whites elliptical would be a better choice for European use or deeper U.S.targets.
Beachwise the Bigfoot will have you hoovering up the modern coins at a fantastic rate especially when you get the pinpointing knack (use either the tip or back of the coil its quicker and easier than using the central null sound).

Site conditions, and your desired target type would play a significant role in choosing a coil type, but since your specifying 5-8 inches, I would opt for the 6x10. An 18" coil is usually a bit less sensitive to smaller targets. As I don't own an 18" coil, I cant speak from personal experience on that particular coil, however I do have a 15" for my minelab, and use it primarily in areas of low trash. You seriously need to consider the amount of trash and soil mineralization in your ground when working such a large coil. Obviuosly, if you had access to both, and could try them in your particular area/ site, would be the best opportunity to make an accurate assessment of performance. If you are looking for an "all around" coil, I would definitely go with the 6x10.

Hi Crash
Forgot you don't have a 6x10 for the XLT in the States so he's got a DFX or similar. Anyway the Bigfoot is not an 18" coil really. If you take the XLT version apart you see its in effect two 8"x2" in line so sensitivity is retained. DFX internal layout is slightly different but externally the same. Thus little pick up of ground mineralisation. Plus if you have a Whites with the Absolute Value option you can just use one 8"x2" section. Adjust recovery speed and good depth is achieved.
