Opinions needed PLEASE!!!!!:surrender:

Well I found something I thought might be of the colonial period but I am not sure. I brought It to a coin dealer an he told me it was a squished piece of metal. I just dont believe him. I can sort of make out a partial date of 16?? on the bottom of the object in the first picture. Stare at this and please help me out with your best guess. I found it in a yard full of wheaties . It was about 8 inches down and it was very blackish and I rinsed it off.I think Im positve about the 16?? but I cant make the rest out. Thank you all in advance. :garrett:

Click on the open image url and click on the picture and it will get big so you can see it.

Look in the Red Book under Colonial Issues Pine tree Coinage. I can't see anything in your pics but there was a colonial coin (or several) with trees and the word Mass.....................

Chris

I studied your pictures and compared them with the actual picture of the coin and this is what I came up with. The picture you outlined the tree matches the actual coin picture, the MAS that I can see in our picture is in the right spot off of the tree. The other side of your coin I can see a round object and what seems to be a back line. It has the right markings on it ,very well could be that coin.

Did a little more research because i noticed that its "triple" struck. It looks like there are 3 trees on the front. lots of extra numbers on reverse also. I am waiting to be contacted by a local historical society. I want this looked at by someone who knows. The coin guy I went to said it was some crushed metal. Boy I want to show him. Well I set up an appointment with 2 historical societys. Hope Its real, and worth something. Be nice to turn it over to a museam or something.

Be neat to find out its worth bugillions of dollars. Well if its worth 5 dollars its still a neat an exciting find. Its a treasure to me.

A while back somebody on another forum found a copy of the Mass. Pine Tree Penny. At least he said he did. I can't find the thread now but I recall that even period copies were valuable. I don't know how anybody is seeing anything on those photos. I don't see any tree, globe, or letters. Good luck with it.

I believe that coin is unique.

Chris

Easy....I can feel your pulse from here! lol!
Have you tried to do a rubbing with thin paper and a pencil? It can sometimes bring out more detail of the raised parts of the coin that are hard to see with the eye. Use the side of the pencil point, not the tip.

i can see a 6 on the bottom left hand corner in the first picture and theres deffinatly a design of some kind too

I can see the lettering in the photo

They look similar where I circled but its really hard to see

It could be it. To bad there is not some type of shadowing to it as to make it clearer to make it out.
