I use an MXT that operates at 14 kHz which makes it very sensitive to low conductive targets like gold and platinum jewelry. I had another detector before when I started out detecting about a year ago. It was good on most coins excluding nickels which run in the gold ring range. About six months ago I got the MXT and so far I have found 23 gold rings. Three this week end alone, along with a silver bracelet and a 58 gram silver chain. What a heck of a week end! I must admit that I am not your typical detectorist. I metal detect on the average of 10-12 hours a week. That being said I would say that any detector that runs in the 12 to 17 kHz range would be ideal for most jewelry. Besides the MXT there are several detectors that fall into that category. DFX, M-6,and the X-Terra, to name a few. Good luck and dig those aluminum tab signals. All the gold rings I have found run in the 10 to 35 VDI reading. With the most of them reading in the high teens to the mid 20's. I hope this helps.

TM, I have an MXT, just installed a Bigfoot. Front half is very sensitive, strong clear signal, but the signal on the rear half, when there is one, sounds like a wide smear. Yours the same way? Aside from that, it is a coin magnet with good separation and pinpointing. Do you use the coin/jewelry or relic setting when hunting? Any suggestions on the setting up the MXT for this coil or just go with the settings that work well with the standard 9.5" coil? Thanks
