Opinion- M6 vs MX5

Hi folks ...... just asking for some expert opinions.... I've had a M6 for years and wondering if the performance of the MX5 would be an improvement.... been looking at newer detectors and trying to narrow it down...

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hi Greg, can't give you a good comparision because i have only owned and used the MX5. I have had the MXT Tracker and now have the MX Sport. For me the MX5 has been very productive. Seems to run a little deeper on coins than the MXT Tracker, but not as smooth sounding with a little more chatter. Once you get used to it though it great for coins and small items like gold and silver charms. I've had smalll stud ear rings sound off and thought I had something bigger than what came out of the ground. Good on silver coins too. Easy to use, really a turn on and go machine. Love the suspend mode while digging a find also. Does great in All Metal mode too if you are not in a real heavy trash area.

I'm sure there are some of the forum members here though that have used both and can give you a good comparision. Think I have even read some on here last year.

Hi Gregg, I have owned both and to me the m6 has better audio and more adjustability with the rotary disc knob than the mx5 with notches. Depth on both was about the same and the feature that liked on the mx5 was the back light. Also in my opinion the m6 seemed to be better built. Also can't remember but the battery holders were not the same, I think?. I might be getting another m6 soon. I'm trying to learn the racer and mxsport right now. We will see how that goes. I still have my trusty mxt pro and my beach hunter id just in case.

Thanks for your replies......i'm also considering a Racer....... I have a few really trashy areas and the MX5 or Racer seem to be leading in those areas.... oohhh decisions!!!
thanks again

For coin and jewelry hunting I much prefer the M6 but if you're planning on doing any nugget hunting then I'd lean towards the MXT Pro. Wasn't a fan of the MX5 compared to the MXT or M6. If you're planning on hunting in trashy areas then the Racer or Racer 2 is heads and shoulders above all three.

There is tons of use full info and comparisons on the M6 vs MX5 and truthfully a buddy of mine had a M6 and swore by it until he borrowed my MX5 . Now we both use MX5's as our main machines and we both are because the MX5 is a deeper beeper ... but because of there similar look other Whites ( like the GT ) the MX5 has been a sleeper but most of those who use them seriously , love them ! Woodstock

I love my MX5, which I got on the spur of the moment-while reading a two page ad in a treasure mag while sitting on the john!! I love it but just don't know the ins and outs of the MX6.

I own both machines and love them both. The one thing you can't do on the MX5 vs the M6 is " Lock " the GB. The GB on the MX5 is always on.

Yeah. I haven't decided if that's good or bad. What I do is whenever I hear some blips or override sounds in a hotspot is slow the sweep and go over it again to give the detector time to evaluate. I have also decided to add the shooter coil to my arsenal-ordering probably tomorrow.

I have both, I also believe the mx5 is hotter. Both have features that I like, being a tesoro fan also I like knobs also, can't go wrong either, if I ABSOLUTELY had to get rid of one it would be the 6. You can somewhat set up the mx5 like the m6 but not vise versa. Just have so many additional features with the mx5.

I'm a big fan of the ED-120 Tesoros, the way they operate quietly in the iron nails and the super fast target recovery. The MX5 can be set up to closely mimic the better Tesoro models by using Coin mode and single tone audio with the first 3 iron segments notched out. Then adjust the Threshold to suit your taste, I run my sensitivity to near max of 9 and get outstanding discrimination and depth, the MX5 is truly a sleeper in White's line up much like the Classic series.

You said it Hombre. Greg...for me the only hangup with the mx5 is where the coil cable connects to the machine, too tight of a spot for me for repeated coil changes, I'll have a small coil on the mx5 and larger on the m6 or however situations dictate. But don't let that steer you away.

Yes. Had no problems switching from my Compadre to the MX5. It compares in reset and I hardly use the pinpoint since it's so fast.
