Opening up the excalibur

excalgirl

New member
I have searched for the thread about how to open up the excalibur and fix the wiring next to the pod. I think I must have some frayed wires as when the battery cord and the coil cord touch it makes a horrid squeal. Anyone remember and know where that tread is??????????????

Thanks in advance.

Old Beechnut ( OBN ) has some videos on doing different modifications and repairs on Excalliburs. Go to the modifications forum and do a search on Excallibur repairs or modifications and you should find information that will help you. If you see a posting from OBN send him a PM. There are others such as Mel Parker that have done these type of modifications also. Hope this helps you. HH :minelab:

Thanks H1, you guys can post them anytime you want....Excalgirl.....main thing is to turn all the knobs to the left as far as they will go..this aligns the shafts to the slots in the PCB (main board) making for a easy with draw of the PCB...if you have a excal II you will have to cut the ground wire, leave yourself enough room to connect it backup .........couple video's if need pics let me know..be back at 4:45pm

Trust me when I say I watched your videos........ more than once! Got the pod apart, found the short and cut about 5 inches off the wiring. Drilled out the epoxy, unsoldered the wires, filled hole with aquarium sealant, pushed the new wiring through and its curing now. All of the wires protective coating was cracking near the pod which is why I took 5 inches off. I'm hoping the sealant does the job and will test with fresh water once everything is back together. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the help.

Had a bit of a problem putting it back together. Old beechnut video looks so easy! (Thank you for posting these) The pins didn't want to line up even though they all looked to be turned all the way to the left. I haven't had a chance to put it in the tub yet but will before it goes to the beach.
Thanks all for the help.

Thanks all for the help.

I use a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket, tape a weight to it, lower the pod to the bottom, pull it out in 60 seconds, check for leaks, if there is no gross leak I do a 1 hour soak. I don't trust 5 minutes in a tub, but that just me.
