So is that the little coil that comes with the pro pack or a separate after market coil? Thanks

It's the little one that comes with the pro pack. They call it an "out of round" coil because it is actually 4 3/4" wide by 5" long.

Thanks for the fast response JEF and HH!

that is one of the many names I have brought to market for search techniques, coils and other things.

Most search coils have been round-shaped or very pronounced elliptically-shaped designs. Back about fifteen years ago, Tesoro introduced their just slightly un-round 8X9 spoked Concentric coil, and since it wasn't elliptical and just slightly "Out-Of-Round" I called it an 'OOR' coil design. I used that term off and on over the years, but things really caught on after January of last year.

It was January and I got a Nokta FORS CoRe (Coin & Relic) with the Pro-Package, and that included their neat little 4.7X5.2 DD coil. I started detecting with a home-built using that had about an 8" coil I wound, but that was in march of '65. By '67 with home designed, and since the summer of '68 using factory-produced detectors, most of the time I have preferred smaller-size search coils in about a 5" to 7" size. The FORS CoRe balances beautifully with the stock 7X11 DD coil, but probably ±90% of my detecting since '67 has been with smaller coils, and that has definitely been the case with the CoRe and 'OOR' coil.

In February of last year I was also putting the Makro Racer to work and in that Pro-Pack was the same size and design smaller DD coil, measuring 4.7X5.2 is shape, and that easily fit my terminology of a slightly 'Out-of-Round' shape so ... 'OOR' is what I would type most often in forum posts or call it in reference during a discussion. Quite often, especially early-on, I would use both the term 'OOR' and then type the actual size because newcomers to the Nokta and Makro product line didn't know what I was referring to.

Also, instead of simply saying a "small coil" which is not very specific, or typing out the entire coil size description of 4.7X5.2 .... just saying 'OOR' gets the message across.

Some posters have called it a 5" coil, but it isn't. It's not a round shape. I have the round 5" DD coils on my Nokta FORS Gold+ and Makro Gold Racer, but the original FORS CoRe and Racer make use of the excellent 'OOR' sized DD coils. I think many Makro and Nokta users also caught on to the easy term of 'OOR' instead of typing out the full measurement description. It must have caught on with hobbyists and I have even seen that term used in print from the manufacturer.

If you ordered the Racer w/Pro-Package, you will have the stock coil and the 'OOR' coil, and that's the coil I definitely use the most on the Racer I hunt with because as a team (either the CoRe w/'OOR' or Racer w/'OOR') these units are absolute tops when it comes to unmasking keepers in trash, especially iron nails and other ferrous junk.

Use the Racer and 'OOR' with efficient settings and a methodical sweep and you'll be surprised at the performance and results.

Thanks Monte for the in depth description. In all my years of detecting this is the first time I'm hearing that term since acquiring the Racer.

'OOR' reference on many Makro and Nokta sites.

Many bought their Nokta FORS CoRe or Makro Racer, or original Nokta FORS Gold, in a "Pro-Package" so that killer little coil was included. I keep the 'OOR' mounted on my Racer full time, and I have one mounted full-time on my FORS CoRe.

I also have a Nokta FORS Gold+ and a Makro Gold Racer, and these two models, at 19 kHz and 56 kHz respectively, have their own smaller coil mounted on a spare lower rod for quick use. Those small coils are the round-shaped 5" DD offerings. Generally similar performance in densely littered sites or working in and around brush, rocks or rubble, just one is Round and one type is 'Out-Of-Round' in shape.
