When I got my Compadre, it looked like it had a coil cover.

I tried to remove it but could not. Dismissed it and didn

Congrats on the new frisbee, Tabdog!

I don't think I'm a fan of coil covers.
(Unless I was a surf hunter, scrubbing the coil on the sand and rocks.)

About the time I wear out, or crack a coil, don't think I'd mind buying another one.

I've been using mine for about 15 years, and they are a little scratched, but that's about it.
Might try painting some epoxy on the bottoms if I start to notice deeper scratches.

There is a cover on the 3 x 18 CS coil I put on the Silver Sabre... I've only had it for a year, or so..

HH,

would it hurt to run my tejon without a cover? its bottom is not plastic like that, its epoxy and real shiny. thanks

I think that if you don't scrub your coil like a lot of beach hunters do, and some others
who are tough on coils, then it really not necessary to have a coil cover.

Unless it's beat up against hard objects, which I don't do, it is far more likely to go out for
some other reason than the minor scratches of normal use.

There are some, especially dealers, who sware by them. I've even heard by some dealers
that a coil cover will increase your depth. Monte's take on that was kind of funny. I would
find it but I have no way to ID the post. (there's no way a cover can do anything for depth
except to reduce it). That happens when it gets dirty sometimes. They then must be
removed. Untold numbers of coils have been broken under the stress of removing removing
coil covers.

Coil covers add just enough weight to be annoying. They add enough mass to be a little
more akward.

My cover was so stuck to my coil that I had to crack the cover just to get off. That's a close
call for my coil. I'll never put it through that again.

That's my take on coil covers.

HH,

all valid comments except when it comes to the stock 9x8 uMax coil which don't quite like because the bottom is recessed and at times will hang up. That one I do use a cover on but have removed it numerous times and have had no problem.

That coil is actually the one I use the least.

It doesn't get enough use to constitute a coil cover.

I like the 8" for depth, and for more depth and coverage

I use the 12X10. The 12X10 is some what vulnerable

also. But I don't use it that much, and am careful when I do.

HH,

yes that is like the 9x8 stock black coil on my tejon, its kinda recessed with no plastic in the bottom, just epoxy. the edges are very sharp. should i use the coil cover on that one?? thanks alot

[Quore] "I've even heard by some dealers that a coil cover will increase your depth."

Man - if that was the case, you think I would have a stack of them attached under my coils? -

I think that coil if it used much it may need the protection.

That coil could even crack on the bottom plastic edge because

of the way it's exposed.

I guess the answer is yes on that one.
